ResidentialBurglary

On January 26 at 4:58 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of East Lemon called to report a burglary. An unknownsuspect entered the residence sometime after the resident left for work andransacked the home. A video game station was stolen. Additional property wasfound by the victim on the front lawn. Investigation continuing.

ResidentialBurglary

On January 27 at 2:48 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of East Colorado regarding aburglary. The victim reported that she left her home for work at 10:00 a.m. on January 26 and returned home at 2:45 a.m. on January 27 to find her houseransacked. There were no signs of forced entry; however, the front door wasopen. Money was taken from a shoe box in the living room. Investigationcontinuing.

Hit &RunTraffic Collision / Vehicle Versus Pedestrian - Suspect Arrested

On January 27 at 3:31 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision occurred at Huntington and Canyon. A 12-year-old girl wasstruck by a vehicle as she tried to cross the street. After stopping brieflydown the road, the driver drove off and did not stop to check on the child orto render any aid. The child was severely injured and was taken by helicopterto a hospital in critical condition.

Officers conducted an intense search for the suspectdriver. Witness statements and evidence at the scene led officers to anaddress in Monrovia, where the suspect vehicle was recovered andthe passenger who had been in the car during the incident was found. Throughfurther investigation, officers eventually located the suspect at a business in Duarte. The female suspect admitted to driving the vehicle and striking thechild. She was arrested and booked for the appropriate charges.

The father of the child called later and reported thatthe victim had been upgraded to stable condition.

Vehicle Burglary

On January 27 at 8:06 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a hotel in the 900 block of West Huntington regarding avehicle burglary. The victim reported that he arrived at the location at about 7:00 p.m., parked his vehicle in the parking area, and went into the hotel. When he returned to his vehicle at about 8:25 p.m., he found the dashboard hadbeen removed and the navigation system was missing. Also missing was abriefcase containing personal information and other miscellaneous paperwork. Investigation continuing.

Vandalism

On January 28 at 2:53 p.m., graffiti was reported at a park in the 300 block of South Myrtle. Suspects wrote on the bandshell in the park in pink/red letters. Investigation continuing.

Discharge of aLaser at an Aircraft

On January 28 at 9:13 p.m., the Foothill Air Support helicopter reported being hit by a green laser from the areabetween Diamond and El Dorado. Arcadia Police Department was also notified. Monroviaofficers responded to the area, but were unable to locate the source of thelaser.

Assault with a DeadlyWeapon

On January 29 at 12:30 a.m., an officer responded to a local hospital regarding a stabbing victim at their facilitywho reported that the incident occurred in Monrovia. The victim, a 16-year-oldmale, stated that he and several friends had left a friend's house in the 100block of East Evergreen and began walking to another friend's house in the 800block of East Olive. When they reached California, they were confronted by twomale Hispanic subjects. The victim pushed the suspect and the suspect stabbedhim in the arm. The second suspect jumped in and hit the victim in the face. Thenthey separated and walked away in different directions. The victim was takento a hospital by friends.

Suspect number one is described as 18 to 22 years old,5 foot 5 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds, black hair, thin moustache, wearing alight colored baseball cap, gray hooded sweatshirt and light colored shorts. Suspectnumber two is described as a male Hispanic, 20 to 22 years old, 5 foot 7 inchestall, 140 to 160 pounds, black or brown medium length shaggy hair, wearing ablack t-shirt. The weapon is a pocket knife with a 4-inch stainless blade. Investigation continuing.

StopGraffiti Bounty Program

One of the methods the Monrovia Police Department isusing to combat graffiti in the community of Monrovia is the Stop GraffitiBounty Program. If a citizen reports an incident of graffiti in the City ofMonrovia that leads to the arrest of the suspect, the citizen will receive a$100 bill. Help keep Monrovia looking great!

Suspicious Package

On January 23 at 1:41 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of West Chestnut regarding a suspicious letterreceived by a local business. A white powdery substance was contained withinthe letter. Monrovia Fire Department, in coordination with Los Angeles CountyFire and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Hazmat Teams,responded to recover the suspicious letter. The substance was analyzed andtested positive as a narcotic substance. The origination of the letter isunder investigation and being handled by the Monrovia Police Department.

Possession ofStolen Property - Suspect Arrested

On January 24 at 11:30 a.m., an officer observed a bicyclist run a stop sign in the 900 block of Alta Vista. Afterstopping the subject, he received consent to search. During the search, hefound the subject was in possession of several gift cards. The names on thecards matched the names of victims from thefts that occurred earlier in theweek in Monrovia. The suspect was arrested for possession of stolen property andthe investigation is continuing.

Trespassing - Suspect Arrested

On January 24 at 9:52 p.m., officers responded to an audible alarm activation at a residence in the 200 block ofNorth Myrtle, which is a house that is under construction. When officersarrived, it appeared as if someone had climbed through an unlocked rearwindow. Upon closer examination, a wallet with identification was found insidethe house.

While officers were speaking with neighbors, theynoticed a male subject walking nearby. His head was down as if he were lookingfor something he had dropped. The officers contacted him and discovered he wasthe owner of the wallet found in the vacant house. This individual lives inthe neighborhood. He said he was looking for a place to smoke Marijuana, andhe knew that the house was vacant. He climbed through an unsecured window andactivated the audible alarm, which caused him to flee and drop his wallet. There was no evidence indicating the suspect entered the location to steal anyproperty. He was arrested for trespassing.

Possession of Burglary Tools -Suspect Arrested

On January 25 at 4:08 a.m., a resident in the 200 block of West Olive reported hearing suspicious male voices in thealley. Officers responded and detained two subjects. One of them was arrestedfor possession of burglary tools. Nearby, the officers found a red and black,"Gary Fisher" brand, mountain bike that had been discarded. The bikewas taken as found property and the officers began attempting to locate itsowner. Investigation continuing.

Attempt Burglary

On January 25 at 9:03 p.m., an attempted residential burglary was reported in the 1000 block of Orange. The incidentoccurred sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. An unknown suspect attemptedto pry open the front door of the residence. There was no loss. Investigationcontinuing.

DetectiveBureau Case Follow-up

Search Warrant- Suspect Arrested

A proactive investigation by patrol officers gaveMonrovia Police Department's Detective Bureau enough information tosecure a search warrant for a residence in the 200 block of West Olive, whichwas served on January 25. The residents are suspected to be selling stolenproperty and narcotics from the residence. As a result of the search warrant,detectives, assisted by Special Enforcement Team officers, found several itemsthat have been listed in recent theft from vehicle incidents. Special EnforcementTeam officers stopped one of the primary suspects of the search warrant outsideof the residence. The suspect was carrying a quantity of packagedmethamphetamine and was arrested and taken into custody.

Conditions inside the residence were reported toMonrovia Code Enforcement and the Department of Children and Family Services. Thiswarrant will hopefully net additional arrests.

Make sure you onlyprovide personal information on websites that you trust completely. Similarly,never give out credit card or other personal information on the phone. Aperson who claims they are calling from an online store to ask you forinformation to complete a transaction may actually be a hacker who got yourprivate data online

Found Child

On January 19 at 3:58 p.m., officers were flagged down regarding a 2-year-old child walking alone in the 300 block ofNorth Grand. Officers were able to determine the child lives at a residence inthe 400 block of East Greystone. Her grandmother is currently her guardian, asthe child's mother was recently taken into custody. At the time of themother's arrest, a referral to the Department of Child and Family Services wasgenerated. This incident was reported to the Department of Child and FamilyServices worker.

Commercial Burglary- Suspect Arrested

On January 19 at 8:51 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 700 block of East Huntington regarding a malesubject who stole merchandise. An officer saw a subject walking on Huntingtonwho matched the description of the suspect. As the officer attempted to contactthe suspect, he ran. The officer gave chase, detained the suspect, and he was arrestedfor burglary. The suspect had apparently committed the same crime two days prior.

Vehicle Burglary

On January 20 at 1:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of South Alta Vista on thereport of a burglary that had just occurred. The victim's van was parked andlocked on the street. The victim's wife heard the van door open and toldthe victim, who went out to investigate. He saw a male subject near the reardoors of his van. The suspect ran to a vehicle and fled in a possible 1990's,black Honda Civic. The suspect had punched out the rear door lock to gainentry to the van and took an electric sander. The suspect is described as a male,wearing dark clothing and either a mask or bandana over his face. Investigation continuing.

Driving Under theInfluence

On January 20 at 4:25 a.m., an officer on patrol drove by a vehicle parked in the 300 block of West Foothill and sawa subject slumped over the steering wheel. The vehicle was running, it was indrive, and the subject would not respond to his knocking. Eventually, thesubject woke up and the vehicle moved forward, but stopped shortly. Afterinvestigation, the subject was arrested for driving under the influence.

Theft From a Vehicle

On January 21, several thefts from vehicles occurredovernight. The thefts occurred in the 200 block of North Alta Vista, 200 blockof West Lime, 400 block of Concord, and the 300 block of NorthMayflower. All of the thefts appear to have occurred in the early morninghours and in most of the incidents, the vehicles were left unlocked. The itemstaken were cash, electronic items, gift cards, and miscellaneous items thatwere left in the vehicles. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On January 21 at 8:00 a.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from a residence in the 1300 block of South Alta Vista. The vehicle is a black, 2000 Honda Civic and was taken sometime during the night. The vehicle has yellow fog lights on the front and a rear spoiler. Investigation continuing.

Attempt Murder -Suspect Arrested

On January 22 at 5:53 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting a stabbing victim at a residence in the 1200 block ofEncino. Officers responded to the location and discovered a male adult with apuncture wound to his chest. The suspect violated a restraining order andentered the home of his estranged wife with a hunting type knife and stabbedher male companion one time in the chest. The suspect then left the location.

The investigation led officers to a hotel in the 900block of West Huntington Drive. Officers immediately containedthe hotel room with the assistance of two Irwindale police officers. Officersdirected the clerk to make a telephone call into the suspect's room to tell himthat his credit card was declined and he needed to go to the office and resolvethe problem. The suspect did not indicate if he was going to leave his room,but approximately 15 minutes later he exited his room and was taken intocustody without further incident. The victim was taken to a hospital, where hewas admitted in critical, but stable, condition.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon / CriminalThreats - Suspect Arrested

On January 16 at 11:52 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of West Cherry regarding a suspectmaking verbal threats to his family. The suspect has recently obtained ahandgun and has been wearing it in his waistband. During recent arguments, he hasthreatened to shoot them and has shown the weapon. After, once again, beingthreatened, the suspect's brother found the loaded gun hidden in theirparent's room. He took the gun and locked it up.

The next day when the suspect went to retrieve the gunand realized it was gone, he became irate and threatened the family with astool, which he dropped, and then retrieved a knife from the kitchen counter. He then threatened the family with the knife. The victims went into theirbedroom, locked the door, and called police. Officers arrived and were able toarrest the suspect without further incident.

Theft - SuspectArrested

On January 17 at 3:00 p.m., a Monrovia High School teacher reported her cell phone had been stolen. She had left thephone unattended near a practice field. She was able to activate a GPSfeature, which indicated the stolen phone was at a residence in the 100 blockof East Los Angeles. Officers responded, and were able to recover the phoneand arrested the 16-year-old suspect.

Grand Theft Auto -Motorcycle

On January 17 at 6:00 p.m., a red and white colored Honda dirt bike with no plates was stolen from the 500 block of West Duarte between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. A 1990's, dark green minivan, possibly aFord or Chevy, was seen in the area. The vehicle was driven by a male Whitesubject, approximately 50 years old, medium build, with a brown mustache and goatee. Investigation continuing.

Traffic Collision -Vehicle versus Bicyclist

On January 18 at 1:43 p.m., a female juvenile on a bicycle was on her way home from school. She was traveling weston Duarte Road, crossing at Alamitas, when she was struck by a vehicle. The driverwas stopped on Duarte Road, turning south onto Alamitas. The bicyclist was onthe sidewalk and entered the crosswalk, but the driver was looking towards hisleft and never saw the bicyclist enter the crosswalk. The impact knocked the juvenileoff her bike, causing minor visible injuries. As a precaution, since thejuvenile was not wearing a helmet, she was transported to a hospital byambulance. Her parents were notified and responded to the hospital.

Prowling / Possession of Burglary Tools-Suspect Arrested

On January 19 at 2:27 a.m., a resident in the 300 block of Shadow Lane reported seeing a male subject using aflashlight to look into parked vehicles. The subject ran when he saw policecars approaching. Officers conducted a yard-to-yard search and found thesuspect hiding in a backyard. He was arrested for prowling and possessingburglary tools.

Update: 2010 ArmedRobbery - Suspect Arrested

On December 28, 2010, an armed robbery occurred at a liquor store in the 400 block of West Duarte Road atapproximately 8:45 p.m. Three suspects wearing ski masks entered the store. Twoof the suspects walked behind the counter and one of them punched the clerk. Theclerk fled into the store and was followed by the suspect. This suspect had asmall chrome handgun and demanded money from the clerk. When the clerk said hedidn't have any, the second suspect took the cash register and all threesuspects fled to a waiting vehicle, driven by a fourth suspect.

On January 18, 2012, a suspect was arrested by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau for amurder committed in Lynwood. During the lengthy interview, the suspectadmitted to committing the armed robbery at the liquor store in Monrovia, alongwith two additional suspects. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department MajorCrimes Division is taking over the investigation and prosecution of the armedrobbery case.

Shots Fired

On January 13 at 10:42 p.m., residents in the area of 1100 South Primrose heard several shots fired. Officersresponded and discovered four .45 caliber bullet casings in the south alley inthe 200 block of West Huntington, near Magnolia. Video surveillance showed amale suspect, possibly White or Hispanic, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt inthe alley. The suspect fired four rounds east in the alley, then he ran westout of sight. It is unknown what he was shooting at; however, at the time ofthe shooting, the manager of a business saw a male Black subject, approximately18 to 20 years old, wearing baggy clothing, dancing around in the parking lot. He then ran east toward Primrose. It's possible he could have been thetarget and was attempting to avoid getting hit. No impact points or blood onthe ground was located. Hospitals were notified, but no victims were reportedduring the night.

On January 16 at approximately 3:00 a.m., an officer stopped a suspicious subject. During the contact, the subjectclaimed to be the victim of the shooting that occurred on January 13. Thevictim said he was in a business parking lot and was shot at; he was not struckor injured. The victim would not cooperate with the officer and refused toprovide any additional information. The clothing the victim was wearing duringhis contact with the officer matched the possible victim's clothing reportedon the night of the shooting. The officer completed a supplemental reportregarding his contact with the possible victim and an identification card wasalso completed. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto -Motorcycle

On January 14 at 2:33 a.m., a resident in the 300 block of South Shamrock heard noises in his front yard and went outsideto investigate. He saw his 2005, orange and black, KTM, dirt bike motorcyclewas missing off a trailer he had parked on the street in front of his house. Witnesses told him they saw a male Hispanic subject, approximately 30 years old,pushing it west on Lemon toward California. Officers searched the area for thesuspect and the motorcycle, but did not locate either. Investigationcontinuing.

Theft

On January 14 at 10:19 a.m., officers responded to a theft report at an apartment complex in the 700 block of South Myrtle. A pickup truck parked on the first level of the parking structure behind thesecurity gate had two duffel bags stolen out of the bed of the truck. Investigationcontinuing.

Embezzlement- Suspect Arrested

On January 14 at 11:43 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 600 block of South Myrtle regarding anembezzlement report. The owner of the business noticed a discrepancy in theinventory and confronted the employee in charge, who admitted to embezzlingproperty from the business. During investigation, the employee confessed toembezzling property from the business over the past five years. The suspectwas arrested and taken into custody.

SpecialEnforcement Team Activity

Traffic Stop / Possessionof Marijuana for Sales / Warrants - Suspects Arrested

On January 14 at 8:46 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 1600 block of South Myrtle. Herecognized the driver and knew she had an active want for her arrest issued by MonroviaPolice Department. A search of her vehicle revealed marijuana found indifferent containers, and a large quantity of cash was found on her person. Her cell phone contained multiple texts from people that indicated she wasselling marijuana to them. She was arrested for the want, as well aspossession of marijuana for sales and transportation. There was a passenger inthe vehicle that was found to have five felony warrants, which included ano-bail probation warrant. The passenger was also arrested.

Domestic Violence /Outside Assist - Huntington Beach Police Department - Suspect Arrested

On January 14, the Special Enforcement Team detained adistraught female on Myrtle and Duarte. The subject said she wasupset because her twin sister had been involved in domestic violence with herhusband. While talking to her, her husband and sister arrived. After furtherinvestigation, the sister was arrested for domestic violence for battering herhusband. Since the incident occurred in Huntington Beach, the Huntington BeachPolice Department responded and took custody of the female suspect.

Felony Hit and RunTraffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On January 9 at 5:42 p.m., a bicyclist was traveling west on Foothill and stopped at Violet when a dark colored SUVcollided into the bicyclist. The bicyclist was ejected approximately 20 feetand the driver of the SUV fled west on Foothill. The bicyclist was treated byMonrovia Fire Department at the scene and was taken to a hospital. Hisexternal injuries appeared minor, but his internal injuries were unknown, so asa precaution, he was taken to a trauma unit.

During the investigation, Monrovia Police Departmentreceived a call from a subject who claimed to have possibly been involved in atraffic collision with another vehicle on Foothill. The caller provided adescription of his vehicle, which matched the description of the hit and runvehicle. Officers responded to the driver's location and after further investigation,the suspect was arrested.

DetectiveBureau - Case Follow-up

On November 16, 2011, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 300 East Coloradoregarding vandalism in progress. The officers were able to locate one adultsuspect and a juvenile suspect. The suspects were arrested for tagging in thearea of 300 East Colorado. The tagging is unique and there were severalreports describing the particular tagging.

A follow-up investigation by a detective discoveredtwo additional suspects tied to the original suspects. After an extensive datacollection effort by the detective, the cost of cleaning up the paint andreplacing the damaged glass amounted to a felony vandalism charge. The detectivewas able to use the detailed preliminary investigation by the officer to securea felony filing against all four suspects and close 25 cases. Since the casewas filed, the detective has found two additional cases to add to the filing.

Distracted driving is anything that takes your eyes ormind off the road or your hands off the steering wheel - especially texting andcell phone use, whether hands-free or handheld. What can you do? Mostimportant, obey the law. It's there for a reason. Also, do yourbest to eliminate distractions:

Never text and drive
Turn off your phone when you get behind the wheel
Don't text or call someone when you know they are likely to be driving
Make a pact with your family, spouse, and caregivers never to use the phone with kids in the car.
No eating or drinking while driving
Don't program your GPS, MP3 player or other devices while driving
Pull over and stop to read maps.
No grooming
No reading
No watching videos
Try not to get too involved with passengers
If something falls to the floor, pull over before trying to reach it.

Grand Theft Auto

On January 5 at 7:51 p.m., an employee of a business in the 1600 block of South Mountain called to report a stolenvehicle. The female victim arrived at work, parked, and secured her vehicle inthe parking lot. While on a break at 5:00 p.m., she saw her vehicle in theparking lot. At 7:45 p.m., she went on her lunch break to her vehicle and thecar was gone. There was no broken glass on the ground where the car had beenand the victim has accounted for all keys to the vehicle. The vehicle is a silver,four-door, 1998 Honda Civic. The vehicle was later recovered by El Monte PoliceDepartment. Investigation continuing.

Mail Tampering

On January 6 at 9:52 a.m., mail was stolen from the mailbox at Mayflower and Foothill. The mail was found in several differentlocations. Checks had been taken from the envelopes, and it was laterdetermined that a male Hispanic subject had attempted to cash one of the checksin Santa Fe Springs, unsuccessfully. Investigation continuing.

72-Hour MentalEvaluation

On January 6 at 10:57 a.m., a male teenager who resides in the 1200 block of South Sherman was threatening suicidewhile on the phone with his mental health counselor. Officers responded and hadto make forced entry into the residence. The subject was taken to a hospital,where he was held for mental evaluation. His mother was notified.

ResidentialBurglary

On January 6 at 8:28 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 400 block of East Los Angeles on the report ofa burglary. When the officer arrived, the female victim told him that her son arrivedhome at 7:00 p.m. and found their computer and some items of jewelry missing. Investigationcontinuing.

Hit and Run TrafficCollision / Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

On January 7 at 9:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to Myrtle and Lemon regarding a non-injury traffic collision. Uponarrival of officers, one of the involved parties was leaving the scene in hisvehicle, heading east on Lemon. The suspect parked in the 100 block of EastLemon and ran south on Ivy. The suspect's direction of travel was broadcastand another officer in the area located and detained the suspect at the cornerof Ivy and Colorado. He was positively identified as the driver of the suspectvehicle by witnesses. Through investigation, officers determined the suspectwas also driving under the influence. He was arrested.

SpecialEnforcement Team Activity

Felony Warrant /Possession of Methamphetamine / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia -Suspect Arrested

On January 4, Special Enforcement Team officers saw a knownsubject in the 300 block of South Myrtle that they knew had a $100,000 felonywarrant for his arrest and a suspended driver's license. As the subjectstarted to drive away, he was stopped and arrested for the warrant. A vehiclesearch revealed a methamphetamine pipe that contained a useable amount ofmethamphetamine. He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine anddrug paraphernalia. His vehicle was stored.

False Tabs on a Vehicle / Driving Without aLicense

On January 7, during an investigation, SpecialEnforcement Team officers stopped a vehicle for numerous vehicle codeviolations. The driver was arrested for placing false tabs on hisvehicle's plates and driving without a license. The vehicle was stored.

On January 2 at 7:16 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of West Olive regarding a stolen vehicle. Thevehicle is a white, 2002 Toyota Camry. The suspect was described as a male Hispanic,5'10", medium build, wearing dark clothing. The vehicle's enginewas left running while the victim made a delivery. The vehicle was last seensouthbound Magnolia from Olive. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On January 3 at 3:57 p.m., a business in the 1400 block of South Mountain called to report one of their servicevehicles was taken between December 31 and January 1. The vehicle is a white,2006 Toyota Corolla. It was last seen parked on their lot. When they returnedto work after the New Year holiday they discovered it was missing. They didnot report the vehicle stolen right away because they thought one of theservice technicians may have left it at a different location. When the vehicledid not turn up, they called police. Investigation continuing.

Assault With a DeadlyWeapon / Domestic Violence - Suspect Arrested

On January 3 at 7:03 p.m., police responded to the report of domestic violence at a residence in the 100 block of East Pomona. A husband and wife were arguing, when the wife held up a barbecuefork in a threatening manner. The husband taunted his wife to stab him and shedid. She stabbed him in his left forearm. She fled the scene prior to thearrival of officers. The officer later spoke to her on the telephone and sheagreed to come to the station, where she was arrested without further incident.

MarijuanaCultivation

On January 4 at 6:21 p.m., police received a call reporting a hydroponic marijuana cultivation at a residence in the700 block of West Walnut. The property owner was told by a neighbor that theupstairs unit had a water leak. The owner responded, but no one was home. Hewent inside and found all of the rooms full of marijuana plants. The waterleak was caused by the irrigation system for the plants. When officersarrived, they found the wiring for the system was creating an electricalhazard. An employee from the Edison Company was summoned, who rendered thelocation safe. Approximately 250 plants were seized, along with expensivehydroponic equipment. Investigation continuing.

Theft From Vehicles

On December 26 at 6:32 p.m., theft from two unlocked vehicles was reported. The thefts occurred from vehicles that wereparked in a driveway in the 500 block of Terrado between Thursday night andFriday morning, December 22 to 23. The victims delayed reporting the crimesbecause they thought they may have misplaced the items. The items stolen weregift cards, checks, and a wallet. Investigation continuing.

Commercial Burglary

On December 27 at 7:37 a.m., an officer went to a business in the 200 block of East Foothill regarding the report of aburglary. The owner told the officer they closed at 12:00 a.m. and secured the location. He arrived the next morning at 7:30 a.m. and saw broken glassinside and the cash register was beeping. The front window had been broken. Hechecked the cash register and saw the small amount of cash kept there for thenext day was missing. The business surveillance video shows a male Hispanicsuspect, 5'8", about 150 pounds, wearing all black, punch the frontsliding service window and pulled himself inside. The suspect took money fromthe register and then left the location out of the same window. Investigationcontinuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery

On December 27 at 11:50 a.m., an officer on patrol saw a vehicle parked in the 100 block of East Camino Real that caughthis eye. He checked the vehicle and a DMV check indicated it had been reportedstolen. The stereo had been taken from the vehicle. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 28 at 4:15 a.m., officers were providing extra patrol to a parking structure in the 700 block of South Myrtlewhen they found a 2006 Mercedes convertible with the roof slashed. Theylocated the owner and confirmed the vehicle had been burglarized between 7:00 p.m. and 4:15 a.m. A pair of sunglasses were stolen. Investigation continuing.

No-Bail FelonyWarrant

On December 28 at 4:47 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Oakglade regarding subjects selling meat out of atruck. The officers located the vehicle and detained the subjects. Computerchecks of the subjects revealed one of them is on parole for burglary and had ano-bail warrant for narcotics out of San Diego. He was arrested and taken intocustody.

ResidentialBurglary

On December 28 at 5:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of East Los Angeles regarding aburglary. The victim had left home at 10:00 a.m. that morning and returned at 4:00 p.m. He went inside and realized someone had broken into the house. A window wasbroken out and was the point of entry for the suspect. Investigationcontinuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On December 23 at 4:07 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of Hacienda regarding a stolenvehicle. At approximately 3:00 a.m., the victims heard their car start. Theyare older and did not immediately report the theft. The vehicle is a silverHonda Accord and all of the keys are accounted. The victim is a leathercraftsman and makes knife scabards. There was a large collection of huntingtype knives in the trunk. Investigation continuing.

Driving Under theInfluence Traffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On December 24 at 1:45 a.m., a female subject driving in the 200 block of Valle Vista drove her car into a parkedvehicle. Officers arrived and the investigation revealed she was driving underthe influence and had a suspended license for a prior DUI. No one was injuredin the collision. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Assault with aDeadly Weapon / Domestic Violence - Suspect Arrested

On December 24 at 10:11 a.m., the Monrovia Police Department received a 911 call from a female resident in the 400block of Linwood reporting her husband struck her with a firearm on the headand held her down on their bed. The suspect allegedly held the firearm to herhead while arguing with her. The victim screamed for their 11-year- old son tocall 911, and the suspect left the bedroom. The victim then called 911, butshe did not know if her husband had left the residence. When officers arrived,the suspect walked out of the residence with his hands in the air. The suspectwas detained and later arrested. He was served with an emergency protectiveorder. He later bailed out of custody. The victim was notified that thesuspect was released.

Found Property

On December 24 at 5:50 p.m., an off-duty citizen volunteer called police to report that he observed a quantity ofloose jewelry on the street at Scenic and Myrtle. An officer responded andcollected the property. There is a mix of older style gold and silver jewelry,pearl necklaces, a gold watch with jewels, and a Bank of America lapel pin. Theproperty was photographed and documented. It will be held for safe keeping andchecked to see if this property matches the description of items recentlystolen in our city. Investigation continuing.

Assault With aDeadly Weapon / Armed and Dangerous Parolee Arrested

On December 24 at 6:22 p.m., dispatch received a call from a female on a cell phone stating she was being held by a malesubject with a knife. The first call she indicated they were at a residence inthe 100 block of Spanner where her family lives. Officers responded and set upa perimeter. She then called and indicated she was now at a business in Arcadia. Officers checked that location, but were unable to locate the victim andsuspect. Her family members said she has been involved recently with thefather of her child and there had been friction in the family. Due to theconcern that she may be held against her will, police requested a trace on hercell phone.

The trace on her cell phone revealed they were in Arcadia. Arcadia Police Department located the vehicle and followed it. A Monrovia sergeantjoined with Arcadia personnel and they stopped the vehicle in the area of 5^thand Foothill. The female got out of the car and appeared unharmed. The malerefused to get out of the car and was belligerent. He had a glass bottle of alcoholin his hand and turned in his seat and faced officers from his open door. Heraised the glass bottle as though he were going to throw it toward officers. Hetold officers to shoot him. The Monrovia Sergeant activated his Taser tocontrol the subject, who was then taken into custody. The suspect was later determinedto have a one million dollar warrant for his arrest for kidnapping for ransom. Hewas medically cleared and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officerand numerous other felony charges, along with a parole warrant and the milliondollar kidnap warrant.

Petty Theft WithPriors / Parolee at Large - Suspect Arrested

On December 24 at 7:52 p.m., dispatch received a call of a male Black subject who had just taken items from a storeand was heading north on Mayflower on foot. A detective located the suspectrunning north on Mayflower then west on Maple, where he ordered him to stop. Thesuspect appeared out of breath and complied. He was detained without furtherincident. It was confirmed that he was a parolee at large and he had manytheft convictions with time served.

Driving Under theInfluence - Suspect Arrested

On December 25 at 1:03 a.m., a driver sped past an officer on patrol at a high rate of speed on Huntington Drive. Theofficer caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Through investigation,the officer determined the driver was under the influence and he was arrested.

Possession of aControlled Substance / Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance -Suspect Arrested

On December 25 at 3:05 a.m., officers responded to the report of a disturbance in the 500 block of West Maple. Thereporting party stated his former girlfriend had come to the house and wasoutside causing a disturbance. Officers checked the area and found a femalesubject hiding in the yard of the location. She gave the officers consent tosearch her purse and they located a baggie containing a usable quantity ofmethamphetamine. Further investigation revealed she was also under the influenceof a controlled substance. She was arrested and taken into custody.

One of the methods the Monrovia Police Department isusing to combat graffiti in the community of Monrovia is the StopGraffiti Bounty Program. If a citizen reports an incident of graffiti in theCity of Monrovia that leads to the arrest of the suspect, the citizen willreceive a $100 bill. Help keep Monrovia looking great!

Vandalism

On December 19 at 8:10 a.m., an officer was dispatched to an elementary school in the 100 block of West Duarte on areport of vandalism. The janitor at the school reported the outside gym wallshad graffiti written on them in black spray paint over the weekend. Theofficer checked the graffiti and noted that it was gang related. The spraypaint can was located. Investigation continuing.

Possession ofBurglary Tools / Attempt Theft / Conspiracy to Commit a Crime / Prowling- Suspects Arrested

On December 19 at 3:27 p.m., officers responded to an apartment parking structure in the 700 block of South Myrtleregarding two subjects trying to steal a bicycle. Officers arrived anddetained two suspects; one suspect was trying to cut the lock securing abicycle and the other was acting as a look out. One of the suspects was inpossession of burglary tools. The suspects were arrested and taken intocustody.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 19 at 5:17 p.m., a vehicle burglary was reported at an apartment parking structure in the 700 block of SouthMyrtle. The victim had parked her truck on the ground level near the entranceat approximately 8:45 a.m. When she returned to her vehicle at about 5:15 p.m., she saw the passenger side window had been smashed and her Garmin Navigation Systemhad been stolen. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 20 at 6:58 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of West Duarte on the reportof a vehicle break-in. The victim's vehicle had been broken into duringthe night and the stereo was stolen. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft

On December 20 at 11:23 a.m., the victim of a grand theft came to the police department lobby to file a report. Thevictim lives in the 600 block of West Colorado. She told the officers she hadplaced her wedding ring in a jewelry box she keeps in the closet in earlyAugust. On November 11, she went to get the ring to wear it and found it wasmissing from the jewelry box. A construction company had been at the housedoing work over the summer and had access to the entire house. Investigationcontinuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 20 at 11:42 a.m., an officer responded to a business in the 700 block of East Huntington regarding avehicle burglary. The female victim reported that she parked and secured hervehicle and went into the gym to work out. When she returned to her vehicle,she saw the front passenger window had been smashed and her purse was stolen. Investigationcontinuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On December 20 at 12:19 p.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from the 500 block of Los Angeles Street. The victimreported his vehicle was taken sometime between 11:00 p.m. on December 19 and 11:30 a.m. on December 20. The vehicle is a silver, four-door, 1997 Honda Civic with a Monroviaparking permit on the rear bumper. All keys are accounted for and theinvestigation is continuing.

Burglary

On December 20 at 4:51 p.m., a burglary was reported at an apartment in the 500 block of West Duarte. Unknownsuspect(s) entered a garage through an unlocked side door and stole two walletsfrom a vehicle. The theft occurred sometime between December 17 and 18. Investigationcontinuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 20 at 7:53 a.m., an officer responded to the report of a vehicle burglary in the 600 block of Vaquero. Thevictim told the officer his vehicle was broken into during the night sometimeafter 10:00 p.m. Nothing was disturbed or taken. No one was seen or heard andthe investigation is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 20 at 2:52 p.m., the victim of a vehicle burglary came into the police department lobby to report thatpersonal property had been stolen from his vehicle. The crime occurred at ahotel parking lot in the 900 block of West Huntington. The victim reportedthat the vehicle was locked, but there were no signs of forced entry. Theitems taken were gifts: an iPod, cash, gift cards, and a book.

Burglary / ParoleHold - Suspect Arrested

On December 15 at 7:30 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of East Huntington on the report of a burglary. A femalesuspect entered a business and was recognized by loss prevention as ashoplifter from previous encounters. They maintained surveillance on thesuspect and contacted police when she exited the store with merchandise withoutpaying. Through investigation, it was determined she had entered the storewith the intent to steal and was charged with burglary. She was found to haveprior convictions and is currently on parole. A parole hold was obtained.

Robbery

On December 15 at 10:58 p.m., police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of West Central. A male subjectwent to the residence and rang the doorbell and knocked. When the victim openedthe door slightly, the suspect pushed the door open, pulled out a revolver fromhis waistband, and pointed it at her. The victim began screaming. The suspectthen grabbed the victim and pulled her out of the apartment and onto thelanding outside her apartment, causing injuries to her hands. The victimcontinued to scream and the suspect fled east from the location on foot.

The suspect is described as a male Hispanic in his 20's,5' 8", medium build, medium complexion, round eyes, round nose and a highforehead. He was wearing a denim collared-type shirt, dark pants, black orblue baseball cap, and he used a silver, full-sized revolver. Investigationcontinuing.

Possession of BurglaryTools / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - Suspect Arrested

On December 16at 1:46 a.m., a suspicious subjectwas reported in a parking lot in the 100 block of West Cherry. Officersresponded and located a male subject hiding behind some storage bins. He had abag of tools and told officers he was stripping wire he found in the parkinglot for copper. During a pat-down search, a methamphetamine pipe was found inhis pants pocket. He was arrested for possession of burglary tools andpossession of drug paraphernalia. He also had an outstanding warrant for hisarrest.

Outside Assist / IrwindalePolice Department - Active Shooter

On December 16 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Monrovia Police Department received a request for mutual aid from Irwindale PoliceDepartment regarding an active shooter at a business complex being utilized by Edison California. All available units where dispatched to assist and the Foothill SpecialEnforcement Team was activated. Five persons were struck by gunfire, withthree fatalities, which include the shooter. The events leading to thisincident are under investigation by Irwindale Police Department and the LosAngeles County Sheriff's Office Homicide Bureau.

Armed Robbery

On December 19 at 1:40 a.m., the owner of a bar in the 1500 block of South Myrtle reported that he had just beenrobbed. He was closing the bar when three male Black suspects entered thepremises. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and pointed it at thevictim. The suspects demanded money from the register, escorted the victim tothe register, and took the money. The suspects ordered the victim to the floorand took his wallet, and then fled in an unknown direction. The suspects weredescribed as three male Blacks in their early 20's, wearing dark clothing andblack hooded sweatshirts. Investigation continuing.

Assault With aDeadly Weapon / Battery

On December 19 at 1:55 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a local hospital regarding an assault report. The victimreported that he and his girlfriend were at the suspect's residence at anaddress on Stedman listening to music. The suspect told the victim to changethe song. When the victim refused, the suspect punched the victim in the face,causing him to go unconscious. The suspect then stood over the victim andpunched him in the face repeatedly. The victim's girlfriend attempted to pushthe suspect away, but the suspect then pushed her to the floor.

The victim suffered a concussion, a moderatelaceration above the left eye, a broken nose, and disfigurement to the leftside of his face. The victim's girlfriend was not injured. The officer was unableto locate the suspect. A want for the suspect's arrest was entered intothe computer database. Investigation continuing.

SpecialEnforcement Team Activity

False Informationto a Police Officer / Sales of Methamphetamine / Transportation ofMethamphetamine - Suspect Arrested

On December 14, the Special Enforcement Team was onpatrol and stopped a vehicle for multiple vehicle code violations. A search ofthe vehicle revealed several baggies of methamphetamine. The suspect also gaveofficers a fraudulent international driver's license with someoneelse's name on it. The suspect was arrested for false information to apolice officer, sales of methamphetamine, transportation of methamphetamine,and he is a previously deported illegal alien. An ICE hold was obtained forthe suspect.

Parole andProbation Compliance Checks

On December 16, Monrovia's SpecialEnforcement Team conducted parole and probation compliance checks with Monroviadetectives and Los Angeles Sheriff's Department DAMAGE personnel. Theteam went to four locations and made two arrests. A parole compliance check wasconducted at a residence in the 400 block of East Greystone, but the paroleewas not there. His wife, who is on probation, was at the residence. A searchof their bedroom revealed several pieces of drug paraphernalia and two Californiaidentification cards that did not belong to her. She was arrested forpossession of drug paraphernalia and later released pending furtherinvestigation. Another parolee was arrested for possession of methamphetamineand drug paraphernalia.

Alcoholic BeverageControl (ABC)

On December 16, between 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., Monrovia's Special Enforcement Team officers conducted ABC saturationpatrol and assisted ABC at several local bars. At approximately 1:30 a.m., officers entered a bar in the 1500 block of South Myrtle and arrested foursubjects for being drunk in public and an ABC Investigator cited the owner forserving an obviously intoxicated customer.

Residential Burglaries

On December 13 at 8:23 p.m., two residential burglaries were reported that occurred on a lot in the 500 block of WestMaple. In both cases, the unknown suspect(s) gained entry by prying open therear door of the residence. The front house was ransacked and jewelry wasstolen. There was minor ransacking in the back house, but nothing was taken.

Mountain Lion

On December 14 at 2:37 a.m., police received a call reporting a mountain lion in the 800 block of East Lemon. Officers responded and found an adult mountain lion, possibly a female, in ayard in the 800 block of East Lemon. It appeared to have an open wound next toits left eye. The officers fired two beanbag rounds, which motivated themountain lion to move back into the hills.

Drug Violations

On December 14 at 2:56 p.m., Monrovia Special Enforcement Team officers on patrol stopped a vehicle for a trafficviolation. This encounter led to the officers conducting a search of thevehicle, which revealed hidden drug contraband under the pad of a child seat. Thedriver was arrested and booked for numerous drug violations.

Grand Theft Auto

On December 14 at 5:51 p.m., police responded to Mckinley Place and Foothill regarding a stolen vehicle. The victimreported that he parked his vehicle on the street. When he returned to where hehad parked it, the vehicle was not there and he could not find his keys. Thevehicle is a white, two-door, Lexus SC300. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On December 14 at 6:12 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 700 block of East Central on the report of astolen vehicle. The theft occurred between 6:45 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The victim parked and locked his vehicle on the street and went into work for the day. When he returned at the end of the day, his vehicle was missing. The vehicle isa black, 2004, Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The victim reported that therewas an unloaded handgun in the vehicle at the time it was stolen, but there wasno ammunition in the truck. Investigation continuing.

Dog Bite

On December 8 at 10:27 a.m., an animal control officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of Encinitas on the reportof a dog bite. During the power outage on December 1, an 80-year-old female subjectwas in her front yard when a dog approached her and bit her on the arm. Thedog owner tried to stop the dog, but failed. The woman fell to the ground andwas assisted by the dog owner. The woman refused medical attention and no callwas made to police to report the incident. On December 8, the woman was takento a doctor and discovered she had sustained a broken wrist. The woman'sdaughter then called police to report the incident. An animal control officer wasdispatched to investigate.

Robbery

On December 8 at 10:30 a.m., a male victim was walking in the 1100 block of Norumbega when a dark colored sedan stoppedahead of him and a male suspect exited the vehicle. The sedan drove up thestreet and the victim continued walking. The suspect then approached thevictim and pointed a black handgun at him and demanded his property. Thevictim handed over his binoculars. The suspect demanded the victim's walletand then reached for the victim's rear pocket, but the victim slapped thesuspect's hand away. The suspect then fled south on Norumbega and got backinto the sedan, which was waiting down the street. The vehicle was last seenheading south on Norumbega out of sight. The victim did not call police until 5:00 p.m. that evening, after being encouraged to report the incident by family members. The suspect is described as a male Black, 20 years old, 6'1", weighingapproximately 200 pounds. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 9 at 4:09 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Cypress regarding a vehicle burglary. Thevictim parked his car at approximately 6:00 p.m. and went to work with his co-worker. On his return at about 4:05 a.m., he discovered a window on his vehiclesmashed and his stereo missing. A screwdriver was found on the front seat. Investigationcontinuing.

Driving Under the Influence -Suspect Arrested

On December 11 at 2:33 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a subject drive through a stop sign at Myrtle and Walnut. The officer stopped the driver and noticed a strong odor of alcohol and, afterinvestigation, determined the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. Thedriver was arrested.

Traffic Collision - Vehicle VersusPedestrian

On December 11 at 6:04 a.m., a woman was walking to work and crossing in the crosswalk on a green light when she wasstruck by a driver whose windows were fogged up. The driver did not see thepedestrian in the crosswalk. The pedestrian complained of pain in her arm andside and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Stolen Bicycle Recovered -Suspect Arrested

On December 11 at 7:21 p.m., an officer took a report on a bicycle that was stolen from the 700 block of West Walnut. At 8:11 p.m., another officer stopped a bicyclist in the 100 block of WestMaple for not having a light during darkness. The bicyclist had a warrant forhis arrest and was taken into custody; the bicycle he was riding was brought tothe police station. The officer who took the stolen bicycle report noticed thatthe bicycle matched the description of the victim's stolen bicycle. The victimcame to the police station and positively identified the bicycle. The suspect wasadditionally charged for receiving stolen property. He claimed the bicyclebelonged to a family member and he borrowed it without their knowledge orpermission.

Outside Assist - Possible AttemptSuicide

On December 11 at 10:20 p.m., the Monterey Park Police Department called to report a suicidal female subject, possiblydriving a black Honda in Monrovia. The female was text messaging her boyfriendin Monterey Park and told him she took 30 sleeping pills because she wanted todie. The female told her boyfriend she was in the 400 block of EastEvergreen. The boyfriend called Monterey Park Police Department and reportedthe incident. Monrovia officers searched for the female, but she was notfound. Approximately two hours later, Monterey Park police called back andreported the female was now possibly in the 300 block of North Myrtle. Monroviaofficers began a second search and an officer eventually located the femalesubject in the 300 block of North Melrose. She claimed to have taken 20sleeping pills and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

With Christmas upon us, thieves will be looking for aneasy target. Shoppers everywhere will be crowding stores and check-out countersin search of grabbing bargains and deals. Just as you may be shopping for agift, criminals are out shopping for your wallet, credit and debit cards, carkeys, and recently purchased items. What can you do to help protect yourself?

Start by shopping smart. Always be aware of yoursurroundings and who is near you. Don't become so engrossed in your shoppingor check-out that you fail to see the person sliding up next to you or yourcart. Never leave your purse or purchased items unattended in a cart, on acounter, or at a table...not even for "just a minute." Thieves willlook for easy targets and persons who may be inattentive to their belongings. Thatopen purse or wallet next to you while you are making your purchase is aninvitation for theft.

Be mindful of your personal space. If you are bumpedor someone just happens to slide up close to you, check your wallet or purseand make sure that you have not become the victim of a thief.

Watch your cards! Credit, debit, charge cards areeasily "skimmed" by use of portable devices meant to quickly captureyour card information. Your information can be later transferred to a magneticstrip on a different card and used for theft. The employee should be sliding yourcard right in front of you. If there is a need to move to a differentregister, go with them. Keep an eye on your accounts. Check your balances andstatements often. Watch for any unauthorized activity and report it immediatelyif discovered.

Don't leave valuable items in your vehicle. Do yourbest not to use your car as a storage compartment. Thieves will target personswho load up their vehicle and then walk away. Keep any items out of plainsight.

Grand Theft Auto

On December 5 at 7:13 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of West Walnut regarding a stolenvehicle. The victim stated that she had picked up her daughter and herdaughter's friend at the El Monte Bus Depot the day before. She drove them toher residence and parked the vehicle on the street. The victim went to sleepat 9:00 p.m., and when she woke up the next morning around 6:00 a.m., the daughter and her friend were gone. She went outside and saw her car was missing.She checked her purse and found the keys to the vehicle, her cell phone, and100 dollars were missing. She did not give the daughter permission to take hercar. The vehicle is a gold, four-door, 1996 Ford Taurus. Investigationcontinuing.

Attempt Residential Burglary

On December 5 at 10:16 p.m., a resident in the 800 block of South Canyon called police to report an attempt burglary. The crime occurred sometime between 12:00 noon and 10:00 p.m. The front door of the residence was forced open, but nothing was taken. Investigationcontinuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery

On December 5 at 9:49 p.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from a business parking lot in the 500 block of West Huntington. The stolen vehicle was a white, four-door, 1994 Honda Accord. At approximately midnight, the Monrovia Police Department was notified by the California HighwayPatrol that the vehicle was found abandoned on the 60 Freeway at Rosemead Boulevard. Investigation continuing.

Possession of Narcotics -Suspect Arrested

On December 7 at 12:57 a.m., an officer stopped a bicyclist at Mayflower and Colorado for a traffic violation. During a consent search, the officer found a small baggie of cocaine. Thesuspect was arrested for possession of narcotics.

Theft from a Vehicle

On December 7 at 7:47 a.m., a theft from a vehicle was reported in the 500 block of West Lime. The victim reported thatsomeone went into his vehicle during the night and took his GPS System. Thevehicle doors had been left unlocked. Investigation continuing.

Theft from a Vehicle

On December 7 at 8:51 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West Lime regarding a theft from a vehicle. The victim reported that someone went into his vehicle, which was parked in analley, and took his car stereo. The vehicle doors were left unlocked. Investigationcontinuing.

Residential Burglary

On December 7 at 1:34 p.m., an officer responded to the 700 block of Norumbega Drive regarding a burglary. Thevictim has been ill and was home asleep. Suspect(s) broke a bedroom window,gained entry, and stole jewelry from the room. The victim did not hear theglass breaking. He woke when he heard his bedroom door open and the lights wenton and off quickly. He did not see the person and thought it was the cleaninglady. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 7 at 3:52 p.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in the 700 block of South Myrtle at an apartment complex. The victim reported that his locked vehicle had been broken into sometime onSaturday, December 3. His GPS System, iPod, and some coins were taken. Investigationcontinuing.

Domestic Violence - SuspectArrested

On December 7 at 4:02 p.m., a female victim of domestic violence called to report an incident that occurred in the 900block of Diamond. The female victim reported that she had been battered by herlive-in boyfriend, who is the father of her child. He struck her in the headseveral times with a closed fist and left the location on foot. The officerlearned the suspect might be on his way to Pasadena. The Pasadena Police Departmentwas notified of the incident, and within the hour, Pasadena called to advisethey were detaining the suspect. The officer responded to Pasadena andarrested the suspect.

Theft from a Vehicle

On December 7 at 8:42 p.m., a theft from an unlocked vehicle was reported in the 200 block of West Lemon. The crimeoccurred between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. A laptop computer and a ring were stolenfrom the vehicle. Investigation continuing.

Fight / Warrant Arrest / Delaying aPeace Officer / Child Annoying / Drunk in Public - Suspects Arrested

On December 7 at 9:51 p.m., and officer was flagged down by a citizen reporting a possible fight in the 100 block ofWest Foothill. As the officer approached a group of subjects, including twomale subjects that looked as if they were preparing to fight, one of thesubjects ran. The officer recognized the remaining subject and knew he had anoutstanding arrest warrant. The subject was uncooperative and challenged theofficer, who then requested assistance. Assisting officers arrived and thesuspect continued to resist, but was eventually taken into custody. No one wasinjured.

At 10:36 p.m., while officers wereattempting to locate witnesses to the fight, a 15-year-old girl told officersthat the subject who ran from the incident had approached her and had madeseveral lewd comments. That suspect was located nearby and was positivelyidentified by witnesses. The second suspect is an 18-year-old male. He wasarrested for child annoying and being drunk in public.

Fight in Progress - SuspectsArrested

On December 7 at 11:56 p.m., police received a call reporting a fight in progress at Myrtle and Pomona. Officersarrived and found two female subjects who witnesses said had been fightingprior to police arrival. The two subjects were arrested for being drunk inpublic. The subjects were part of the group from the above listed fight incidentthat occurred in the 100 block of Foothill.

DetectiveBureau Case Follow-Up

Search Warrants

On December 6, detectives went to Anaheimto serve a search warrant for a stolen laptop computer. The computer wasstolen from a vehicle at Homestead Village. The laptop was equipped with atracking device. The tracking service was able to produce the Facebook pagefor a possible suspect and an address associated with the IP address. Thedetectives recovered the computer. The investigation to identify the suspectcontinues.

On December 7, detectives went to Winnetkato serve a search warrant on a counterfeit suspect. The search warrant allowedthe detectives to search for additional counterfeit bills. The detectives didnot find any more counterfeit bills, but they did seize a usable amount ofmethamphetamine.

MPD tweeted in the last couple of days warning about locking your car and making sure that you don't have stuff you want to keep in plain view in your parked car. If you follow their Crimemapping stats its a problem around town including residential areas.

Its been a while since we have been ransacked at night but its probably time to share with the new folks that we a) have a neighborhood watch and b)need to be aware of what is going on to prevent ourselves from becoming victims of crime.

Highlighted Activity for the Weekend of December 1-4, 2011

Monrovia's Emergency Operations Center Activated

On December 1 at 4:24 a.m., the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the City of Monrovia was activated due to the amount of damage created by windstorms. All available personnel were assigned to specific tasks to meet the demands onthe calls for service regarding power outages, downed power lines and downedtrees. The windstorms began the night before at approximately 11:00 p.m., but calls reporting property damage began after midnight. The policedepartment received over 500 calls for service in a 24-hour period. The callsranged from residents trapped due to downed trees or power lines, preventingthem from leaving their residences, to broken water lines. The appropriatedepartments were notified through the EOC. The entire day was spent answeringcalls for service due to the wind related incidents. While there were over 500calls for service, only two calls involved criminal investigations. The callsfor service did not let up until after 9:00 p.m. The EOC was scaled down after midnight.

Attempt Residential Burglary

On December 1 at 8:36 a.m., a resident in the 400 block of West Colorado reported an attempt burglary. Suspect(s) tamperedwith the deadbolt on the detached garage and cut the lock off a toolbox on anearby trailer. The incident occurred sometime between 2:45 and 6:30 a.m. No suspects were seen or heard. Investigation continuing.

Commercial Burglary / Forgery

On December 1 at 5:31 p.m., the owner of a business in the 400 block of West Foothill called to report that a female suspecthad entered her business on November 19, 2011, and purchased several itemsusing a check from a closed account. The female was identified throughcomputer checks. The investigation is continuing.

Petty Theft

On December 2 at 1:26 p.m., a resident in the 500 block of Falling Leaf called to report someone had stolen hislaptop from his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in front of his residence duringthe night. No suspect(s) seen or heard. Investigation continuing.

Commercial Burglary / RunawayJuvenile

On December 2 at 3:46 p.m., a business in the 500 block of West Huntington called to report two female juveniles whohad walked into the business, selected merchandise, and stole several itemsfrom the location. The juveniles fled the location when approached by the lossprevention officer. They had dropped their purses as they were trying to getaway. One of the juveniles eventually came back to the location and turnedherself in to police. A computer check revealed she had an outstanding warrantfor her arrest. The juvenile was taken into custody.

The subject was found to be a ward of the court andwas later released to a worker from the Department of Child and Family Services(DCFS). As the female and the DCFS worker exited the police department, thefemale ran southbound on Ivy and out of sight. Officers responded and conducteda search, but she was not located. A missing person's report was completed forthe runaway.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 2 at 6:54 p.m., a female resident in the 1000 block of Royal Oaks parked her vehicle in the parking lot ofher apartment complex, leaving her purse inside the vehicle. The female wasinside for about hour, and when she returned, she discovered the passengerwindow had been smashed and her purse was taken. No suspect(s) were seen orheard. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On December 2 at 8:37 p.m., a female subject called to report a vehicle burglary that occurred in the 1300 block ofSouth Magnolia. She parked and locked her vehicle in a carport of an apartmentcomplex. When she returned to her vehicle, she discovered her rear windowsmashed and her computer case and accessories missing. A citizen recoveredsome of the victim's property in the roadway at Canyon and Chestnut. Thecitizen called police and turned in the victim's property. The crime occurredsometime between 6:40 and 8:30 p.m. Investigation continuing.

Traffic Collision / Driving Under theInfluence - Suspect Arrested

On December 4 at 3:20 a.m., a vehicle collided with two parked vehicles in the 800 block of West Foothill. Officersresponded and determined the driver to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested.

Burglary / Criminal Threats -Suspect Arrested

On November 21 at 11:45 a.m., a resident in the 1300 block of South Primrose found a male subject rummaging throughclothes in her garage. The suspect told the resident he was running from thepolice, and if she contacted the police, he would be back to hurt her. He fledthe area and the victim called police. Officer responded and located thesuspect. The suspect was positively identified by the resident. He wasarrested for the charges of burglary and criminal threats.

Driving Under the Influence -Suspect Arrested

On November 21 at 9:26 p.m., officers responded to the report of a drunk driver in the parking lot of a restaurant in the600 block of West Huntington. Upon arrival, officers saw the vehicle travelingeast on Huntington. They stopped the vehicle for several traffic violations inthe 600 block of West Huntington. After investigation, the driver was determinedto be under the influence and was arrested for DUI. The vehicle was stored.

Grand Theft from Vehicle

On November 23 at 7:43 a.m., a resident in the 200 block of Highland reported that someone had broken into his vehicle. His vehicle was parked in the driveway and was broken into sometime after 9:00 p.m. the previous night. The officer found all of the vehicle doors were unlockedand there were no signs of forced entry to indicate a burglary. A laptop computerworth about $1000.00 was taken. No witnesses or suspects were located. Investigation continuing.

Petty Theft from Vehicle

On November 23 at 12:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 400 block of Lotone Street regarding theft from a vehicle. The female victim reported her vehicle was parked in the driveway at 9:30 p.m. the night before. In the morning, she discovered her Bluetooth earpiece wasmissing from the center console. She checked the rest of the vehicle anddiscovered that her black faux fur coat was missing from the trunk. All doorswere unlocked and there were no sign of forced entry. The investigation iscontinuing.

Grand Theft from Vehicle

On November 23 at 1:41 p.m., a male subject came into the police department lobby to report a theft of checks from hisvehicle. He had parked his vehicle in the street in front of his residence inthe 500 block of West Scenic Drive. The crime had occurred sometime during thenight. He had several money orders in the center console that were made out toa business and he thought he had locked the doors, but there were no signs offorced entry. Investigation continuing.

Attempt Robbery

On November 23 at 9:52 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Mountain View regarding an attempt robbery. Fivejuveniles were talking on the corner of Mountain View and Mountain when a whiteHonda occupied by three male black suspects pulled up. Two of the suspects exitedthe vehicle and approached the juveniles. They simulated handguns under theirshirts, demanded money and electronics, and threatened to shoot the juveniles. The third suspect, still sitting in the vehicle, suddenly revved the engine ofthe car. The two suspects then returned to the vehicle and they all fled,abruptly, without any property. Investigation continuing.

Driving Under the Influence / Hit andRun Traffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On November 24 at 7:14 a.m., a traffic collision occurred in the 100 block of North Fifth Avenue and the driver ran fromthe scene. When officers arrived, they conducted an area search and observed asubject who matched the description of the driver walking in an alley. Thesubject ran, but was detained in a nearby yard. The suspect was positivelyidentified as the driver involved in the collision by witnesses. The driver isa 17-year-old juvenile who had been drinking. The juvenile was arrested,cleared medically, and later released to a parent on a citation.

Commercial Burglary / Forgery -Suspects Arrested

On November 25 at 9:00 a.m., dispatch received a call from the manager of a retail business in the 500 block of West Huntington. The manager was reporting a female suspect attempting to purchasemerchandise with counterfeit 100 dollar bills. Officers conducting extrapatrols in the area responded within minutes and detained a female suspectinside the store. A second suspect who had selected merchandise and leftwithout paying was detained in her vehicle. During the investigation, bothsuspects were found to have additional counterfeit bills in their possession. A receipt for another store in the same shopping center was discovered on thesuspect who was sitting in the vehicle. Officers checked the second businessand discovered that both suspects had also made purchases there usingcounterfeit 100 dollar bills. The suspects were arrested and taken intocustody.

Driving Under the Influence of Drugs/ Possession of a Controlled Substance / Warrant - Suspects Arrested

On November 25 at 2:57 p.m., an officer observed a subject at a red signal heading south on Mayflower at Huntington. Theleft turn signal turned green and the driver suddenly turned into the left turnlane and cut off several vehicles. The officer stopped the driver, and throughinvestigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence of acontrolled substance and was arrested. During a search of the vehicle,officers located a small plastic case containing two plastic baggies ofmethamphetamine and one baggie of marijuana. There was a passenger in thevehicle that had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. The passenger was alsoarrested.

Child Endangerment - SuspectArrested

On November 25 at 8:46 p.m., a Monrovia park ranger observed a juvenile stumbling through a park in the 300 block ofSouth Myrtle. He contacted the juvenile and determined he was drunk. Officersand medics were requested as the minor was beginning to hallucinate. The minorwas taken to a hospital and his parents were contacted. The investigationrevealed the minor had been provided alcohol and marijuana by a 20-year-old,male subject. There were several other adult males present who had alsoencouraged the minor to drink and smoke. The adult male who provided the minorwith the alcohol was arrested and admitted to providing the alcohol and amarijuana pipe, but he denied providing the marijuana. He is charged withfelony child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Theinvestigation regarding the other male subjects is ongoing.

Commercial Burglary / Felony ChildEndangerment - Suspect Arrested

On November 25 at 10:36 p.m., loss prevention at a business in the 500 block of West Huntington reported a femalesuspect had stolen merchandise, left the store, and was driving away in a red vehicle. An officer in the area observed the vehicle attempting to enter the 210 Freewayfrom Huntington going wrong-way up the exit ramp. The officer was able tocatch up and stop the vehicle. The female suspect had a four-year-old child inthe car with her. The suspect was taken into custody and positively identifiedby the loss prevention officer. He advised the officer that the female suspecthad the child with her when she committed the crime. During a pat-down search,a usable quantity of methamphetamine was found on the suspect and a search ofthe vehicle revealed a usable quantity of cocaine. The suspect was chargedwith commercial burglary, felony child endangerment, and the related narcoticscharges. The suspect is the child's aunt. The child's mother wascontacted and the child was released to her.

Medical Assist

On November 27 at 10:44 p.m., an officer responded to a medical assist of an elderly woman having difficulty breathingat a residence in the 400 block of East Olive. The officer arrived and knockedon the door, but no one answered. The officer made entry into the residence byforcing the front door open. Upon entering, he located the woman, who wasunable to answer the door, and assisted her until Monrovia Fire Departmentarrived. The woman was taken to a hospital by ambulance for treatment.

Domestic Violence

On November 10 at 10:36 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of South Alta Vista regarding a domestic disturbance. The disturbance was between a male and female who have a four-year-old childtogether and are in the process of separating, but still live together at thistime. The male subject was upset and pushed the female out the front door anddown a small flight of stairs. When she hit the ground, she struck her head andsustained other visible injuries. The male subject disabled all of the phonesso the female could not call police. He grabbed the small child and held heras he yelled threats to the victim, stating he would harm or kill her. Thechild was traumatized by the incident. Police arrived and arrested the suspectwithout further incident. He was booked for domestic violence, criminalthreats, disabling the phones, and for child endangerment.

Grand Theft Auto

On November 12 at 1:01 a.m., a vehicle was reported stolen in the 200 block of Los Angeles. The vehicle was a white,1994 Honda Civic. The vehicle was stolen some time between 11:00 p.m. on November 11 and 1:00 a.m. on November 12.

Mental Evaluation

On November 12 at 4:00 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 900 block of South Mountain saw a male subject walking inthe rain wearing only shorts. The subject told officers he had not slept forthree days, he had not taken his medication, and he did not know where he wasor where he was going. He was taken to a hospital, where he was held formental evaluation.

Residential Burglary - SeniorCitizen Scam

On November 12 at 11:24 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of North Magnolia regarding atheft report. The theft had occurred the day before at the home of a seniorcitizen couple in their late 80's. On November 11 at 5:00 p.m., the female victim answered her door to two male, White suspects in their late 20's. Sherecognized the suspects as two subjects who had come to their home a monthprior, soliciting car service. The two suspects actually did minor repair workat the home on the couple's vehicle. The victim's husband was not home,so the suspects asked to leave their phone number. When the victim walked toher kitchen and told them to wait while she got a pen and paper, they followedher inside, uninvited. One suspect asked to use the restroom while the otherdistracted the woman, but instead of using the restroom, he went into her bedroomand stole money and all of her jewelry. The two suspects left and the victim didnot discover the theft until later that evening. The suspects were driving ablack, Ford F150 truck with chrome wheels.

Commercial Burglary

On November 12 at 11:46 a.m., police responded to a burglary that occurred in the 400 block of South Myrtle at a privatebusiness. The business is only accessible from the rear alley and one mustwalk up a flight of stairs. The suspect(s) forced a window open to gain entryand stole money and a laptop.

Attempt Armed Robbery

On November 12 at 6:06 p.m., a male subject in his late 20's approached a woman in a parking lot in the 600block of West Huntington. The suspect displayed a black handgun and demanded thevictim give him her purse. The victim refused to give up her purse and thesuspect turned and fled on foot, heading east. The suspect is described at amale Hispanic, wearing blue jeans and a grey shirt with a graphic design on theshoulder. Officers responded and conducted an area search for the suspect, butwere not able to locate him. There was no harm to the victim and no loss.

Vehicle Burglary

On November 14 at 7:45 p.m., police responded to the report of a window-smash vehicle burglary that occurred in abusiness parking lot in the 700 block of East Huntington. The crime occurredbetween 6:20 and 7:35 p.m. There was no loss. Investigation continuing.

On November 14 at 10:01 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting a window-smash vehicle burglary that occurred in abusiness parking lot in the 500 block of West Huntington. The crime occurredbetween 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. There was no loss. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary / Grand Theft AutoRecovery

On November 15 at 1:13 a.m., a 1993 Honda Accord was reported stolen from the front of a residence in the 1400 block ofSouth Magnolia. The crime occurred between 9:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. The vehicle was found and recovered a short distance away. The GPS system and a toolbox hadbeen stolen from the vehicle. Investigation continuing.

Possession of Narcotics / Possessionof Narcotics Paraphernalia - Suspect Arrested

On November 16 at 7:05 p.m., police received a call reporting a suspicious vehicle parked at Greystone and Ivy. Officersarrived and found the male occupant was preparing to ingest heroin. He wasarrested for possession of narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia and taken intocustody.

Serial Vandalism - Suspects Arrested

On November 16 at 8:09 p.m., police received a call reporting a vandalism incident that had just occurred in the 300block of East Colorado. Two male suspects were seen "tagging" awall and fleeing on foot. Officers arrived and began a search of the area. Awitness told an officer the suspects ran through an apartment complex. Officersentered the complex and were seen by the suspects, who immediately attempted torun away. They were detained quickly and positively identified by the witness. Through investigation, it was learned that these two suspects are responsiblefor an extensive series of recent vandalism. The suspects each confessed to othercrimes and led officers to additional unreported vandalisms. Also discoveredduring the investigation, were the identities of two previously unknownsuspects. These two have also been responsible for many recent vandalismincidents. The suspects, a male juvenile and male adult, were booked forvandalism. The juvenile was cited and released to his mother. The adult wasbooked for felony vandalism and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Othercharges are pending on all four suspects.

DetectiveBureau Case Follow-up

Monrovia Special Enforcement Team officers assistedthe Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department serving several warrants. Three warrants were served in Monrovia. The warrants resulted inthree arrests and the recovery of four guns.

Crime Prevention Tip of the Week

When leaving your vehicle parked and unattended, makesure you do not leave any personnel items, such as GPS system,purse, cell phone, or computer laptop in your vehicle. If you need toleave valuables in the vehicle - use the trunk. If your vehicle does not havea trunk - place valuables under the seat out of view, and always lock yourvehicle.

During the last seven-day period, the PoliceDepartment handled 504 service events, resulting in 107 investigations. Following are the highlighted issues and events. To see a complete listing ofcrimes reported, go to http://www.crimemapping.com/map/ca/monroviafor crime mapping.

Arson - Suspects Arrested

On November 3 at 3:43 p.m., police received a call reporting smoke coming from the railroad tracks at Monterey Avenue. An animal control officer was near the tracks and saw three juveniles leavingthe tracks near the smoke. Officers responded and were able to detain thethree juveniles. During the investigation, the officers were able to determinethat the juveniles not only set this fire, but were also responsible for fourprevious fires set on the tracks over the past several weeks. The juvenileswere brought to the station and Juvenile Hall was notified. Juvenile Hall requestedthe juveniles be cited and released.

Grand Theft Auto - SuspectsArrested

On November 4 at 12:41 a.m., an officer observed a suspicious vehicle eastbound in the 500 block of West Huntington. A license plate check revealed the vehicle was stolen. The officer stoppedthe vehicle in the 100 block of East Evergreen and detained four occupants. Thevehicle was part of a sting operation through the California HighwayPatrol's Taskforce for Regional Auto-theft Prevention (TRAP). CHP wasnotified and responded to the scene. CHP TRAP officers took the suspect intocustody and stored the vehicle. Two other occupants were arrested, one for amisdemeanor traffic warrant and the other for a no-bail warrant out of Monrovia. The fourth person complained of chest pain and was taken to a hospital.

Driving Under the Influence / TrafficCollision - Suspect Arrested

On November 4 at 2:28 a.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Ninth Avenue regarding a traffic collision. Adriver hit a parked vehicle. The driver was determined to be intoxicated andwas arrested for driving under the influence.

Medical Assist

On November 4 at 7:45 p.m., a woman was sitting on the window sill of her second floor apartment in the 400 block ofEast Foothill and fell from the window onto the patio below. When officers andparamedics arrived, she was conscious and was able to tell the officers she hadnot been pushed; she simply lost her balance and fell. Neighbors werequestioned and said they did not hear any disturbance from the apartment. Atthis time, no foul play or crime is suspected.

Hit & Run on Private Property

On November 5 at 3:51 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of East Huntington regarding a hit and runcollision. An employee who works night hours came out to his car to find ithad been struck and shoved up onto the walkway from the parking lot area. Hedid not know when the incident occurred and no suspects were observed. Therewas white paint transfer found on the car. Apparently, the suspect cut throughthe parking lot and struck the car, then fled the scene. An area check wasconducted, but the suspect vehicle was not located.

Drug Activity / Possession of aControlled Substance / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia - SuspectArrested

On November 5 at 10:29 p.m., an officer stopped a bicyclist for not having lighting equipment at night. During thecontact, the bicyclist admitted to having drugs and a pipe on his person. Thesuspect was patted down and found to be in possession of methamphetamine and a drugpipe. The suspect was arrested.

California Highway Patrol Activity in Monrovia / Driving Under the Influence / Pursuit - Suspect Arrested

On November 6 at 8:29 p.m., the CHP was involved in a pursuit of a suspected drunk driver. The suspect exited the 210Freeway at Myrtle and the pursuit eventually terminated in an alley behind abar in the 1500 block of South Myrtle. The suspect fled on foot, but wasapprehended by CHP Officers in the 100 block of East Pomona. The CHP did notrequest Monrovia Police Department's assistance during this incident.

Driving Under the Influence -Suspect Arrested

November 6 at 10:11 p.m., an officer on patrol observed an intoxicated subject behind the wheel of a stoppedvehicle that was blocking the roadway in the 500 block of West Chestnut. Theengine was running and the driver told the officer he had driven from El Monte. The officer arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The suspect'scriminal history revealed he had three other DUI arrests within a 10-yearperiod. The suspect was charged with felony driving under the influence.

September 29, 2011, Vehicle Burglary- Suspect Arrested

On November 7, an officer on patrol in the 600 blockof East Huntington recognized a suspect wanted for vehicle burglary. The suspect was with two other subjects. The officer detained the subjects andsubsequently arrested the wanted suspect. The vehicle burglary occurred on September 29, 2011, at an apartment complex parking structure in the 100 block of West Colorado. Fingerprints were lifted at the scene from the vehicle and asuspect was identified. The detective assigned to the case notified patrol ofthe suspect's identification and the suspect was located on November 7.

Vehicle Burglary

On November 9 at 5:17 a.m., a caller reported his vehicle broken into overnight. The vehicle was parked in a parkinglot in the 700 block of West Huntington. The vehicle had been locked andsecured.

Petty Theft from a Vehicle

On November 9 at 8:11 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of South Primrose regarding atheft from a vehicle. The victim reported that he parked his vehicle in hisdriveway at approximately 4:00 p.m. He left the vehicle unlocked and thewindows were cracked about 2 inches on both sides. Overnight, the suspect(s)entered the vehicle and took his wallet, which was left in the driver sidecompartment.

Graffiti Vandalism

On the morning of November 9, three locations calledto report vandalism that had occurred overnight. The locations had beenvandalized with similar graffiti. The vandalism occurred in the 500 block ofFallen Leaf, 600 block of South Shamrock and the 100 block of East Chestnut. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery

On November 9 at 4:42 p.m., an officer drove by a suspicious vehicle parked in the 300 block of Genoa. He conducted aDMV check on the vehicle's plate and it returned as stolen out of Sacramento on November 6, 2011. The vehicle was recovered.

Driving Under the Influence of aControlled Substance - Suspect Arrested

On November 9 at 5:35 p.m., a caller reported a subject who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs tryingto start his vehicle at Myrtle and Foothill. A second caller reported thesubject drove off east in his vehicle. Officers responded, located the vehicleand stopped it east of Myrtle. The investigation revealed the subject wasunder the influence of a controlled substance and he was arrested and takeninto custody.

Grand Theft Auto

On November 9 at 8:33 p.m., a 2005, 4-door, white Chevy Silverado was reported stolen from the 800 block of Bonita. The crime occurred between 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Grand Theft Auto

On November 9 at 8:50 p.m., a 2000, white Honda Civic was reported stolen from the 500 block of West Huntington. At 10:40 p.m., an officer located the vehicle parked in the 600 block of West Huntington. Thevehicle's engine was cold when it was found. It appeared the suspect(s) tookthe vehicle for a joyride, ransacked it, stole a toolbox and the vehicle'sregistration, and abandoned the vehicle.

Tips for Driving in Rain

First and foremost: slow down! It takes longer tostop or adjust in wet weather. When driving in rainy conditions, it is moredifficult to see other vehicles, road signs and the road itself. It iscritical to make sure you can see and be seen. Turn your headlights on even ina light rain, or in gloomy, foggy or overcast conditions. Not only do theyhelp you see the road, but they'll help other drivers see you.

Before it starts to rain, replace old or brittlewipers. Replace your wipers regularly, at least once a year. Wiper blades inbad condition don't clear water from the windshield very well and distort yourview. Older vehicles may need to have the whole wiper arm replaced. The armsbend over time and sometimes can't keep enough downward pressure to clear thewindshield, even with new blades installed. Maintain proper following distance(3 Second Rule); this needs to be increased in wet weather. Don't follow large trucksor buses too closely. The spray created by their large tires reduces yourvision.

Wet-weatherdriving also demands gentle use of all main controls - steering, clutch, brakeand accelerator - and a larger allowance for errors and emergencies. Bemore alert when driving in wet or slippery conditions and watch out for brakelights in front of you. And, again, most importantly, slow down! This shouldbe obvious, but people are so used to driving certain speeds on certain roadsthat sometimes they forget the need to slow down when inclement weatherpresents itself. Slow Down and Drive safely!

Trespassing - Suspect Arrested

On October 27 at 11:24 a.m., a 19-year-old male subject was placing pizza advertisements on the front door of houseswhen he came across an unlocked door in the 200 block of Sunset. He decided toenter the home. He was found loitering in the kitchen by the housemaid, andwhen discovered, he ran out of the house and out of sight. Police respondedand he was apprehended on the next street over, continuing his work. He wasplaced under private person's arrest for trespassing.

Fire

On October 27 at 3:40 p.m., a fire was reported on the railroad tracks behind the 700 block of Montana. Officersresponded and discovered a cloth towel on fire. They put out the fire. Witnessessaw two junior-high-school-aged, male subjects, leaving the area of the tracks,walking west along the tracks out of sight. Both had skateboards. It isunknown if they were the subjects who started the fire. Officers searched thearea, but did not locate any suspects.

Attempt Burglary

On October 27 at 6:16 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of North Myrtle. The victimestimates the suspect attempted to enter the property between 8:15 a.m. and 5:35 p.m. on October 27. A rear window screen was cut, allowing access to the doorhandle. There was no loss. The suspect may have been scared off prior tocompleting the burglary. Investigation continuing.

Residential Burglary

On October 27 at 7:19 p.m., an officer responded to the 500 block of East Olive regarding a burglary report. Thevictim saw that her jewelry box appeared to be tampered with earlier in the week,but due to being in a rush, did not investigate further. She later discovered thatfive gold rings and a bottle of Brandy were missing. There was no forced entryor evidence discovered. Investigation continuing.

Warrant / Gang Injunction Service- Suspect Arrested

On October 28 at 5:39 p.m., Monrovia Police Department received a call from San Gabriel Police Department advising theyhad a female in custody for a no-bail warrant out of Monrovia. The female is adocumented gang member named in the gang injunction, but had not been served. Herwarrant was for felony vandalism she had committed in the City of Monrovia. Anofficer responded and served her the gang injunction papers and took her intocustody for the warrant. She was transported to the Monrovia Police Departmentjail.

Driving Under the Influence / TrafficCollision - Suspect Arrested

On October 28 at 10:02 p.m., an adult, male subject left a World Series party on Beechwood and collided with a parkedvehicle; both vehicles were heavily damaged. Police responded to the scene andthe driver was determined to be driving under the influence. He was arrestedand taken into custody.

Traffic Collision

On October 29 at 4:57 a.m., police received the report of a traffic collision with a vehicle rolled over at Myrtleand Huntington. A driver had grown impatient waiting at the traffic light anddrove north on Myrtle to make a u-turn. The driver failed to see anapproaching vehicle and struck it. The driver of the second vehicle lostcontrol and the vehicle rolled over. Injuries were complaint of pain only andone person was transported to a hospital by paramedics.

Domestic Dispute / Suicide

On October 29 at approximately 12:01 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of South Myrtle. Whenofficers arrived, they found a man holding a woman at gunpoint. Officersimmediately confronted the male suspect and ordered him to put the gun down. The suspect then turned the gun on himself and took his own life. Theinvestigation revealed that the suspect was the woman's ex-husband and they hadone child together. The suspect had followed his ex-wife and child and had confrontedthem where the incident occurred. The woman and child were not injured. Theinvestigation is continuing and is being conducted by the Monrovia PoliceDepartment Detective Bureau.

Outside Assist - California Highway Patrol

On October 29, a caller reported a drunk driver on the210 Freeway, striking walls with his vehicle and driving on the rim of one tire. Another caller then reported a traffic collision with the vehicle rolled overin the area of Myrtle and the 210 Freeway. The driver had exited the freewayat Myrtle, striking the cement construction barricades. He lost control of hisvehicle and went through the fence for the freeway embankment. The vehiclestruck a large light standard with such impact it sent the light fixture flyingoff the pole and bent the pole severely. The driver was found unconscioustrapped inside his vehicle. Monrovia Fire Department personnel responded andextracted the driver by cutting off the top of the car. The subject was takento a hospital by ambulance.

Felony Vandalism

On October 30 at 2:53 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Magnolia and Genoa regarding a subject that wasusing a realty sign post to vandalize two cars. On arrival, the officers foundthe suspect had fled. Two vehicles parked on the street were heavily damaged. A search was conducted for the suspect, but he was not located. Investigationcontinuing.

Vandalism

On October 31 at 7:32 a.m., a school district employee called to report graffiti on their warehouse in the 400 blockof Almond. An officer responded and located the graffiti on the warehouse eastfacing wall and on a small retaining wall. The graffiti is gang related andwas written in black spray paint. Investigation continuing.

Vandalism

On October 31 at 9:16 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 1200 block of South California was flagged down by aresident. The resident reported that the north facing wall of a house had beenvandalized with graffiti. The graffiti is gang related and was written ingreen spray paint. Investigation continuing.

Vandalism - Suspect Arrested

On October 31 at 9:45 a.m., a witness called police to report a male subject vandalizing a stop sign at Ivy andWalnut with yellow paint. The witness stayed on the phone and helped directpolice to the suspect's location, and the suspect was detained. Thesubject was positively identified by the witness and arrested. The reportingparty was notified that they would be eligible for Monrovia PoliceDepartment's Stop Graffiti BountyProgram for reporting the incident that led to an arrest. Vandalism / Petty Theft / Curfew / Trespassing- Suspect Arrested

On November 1 at 2:10 a.m., officers responded to a call of three subjects throwing pumpkins in the 200 block of North Encinitas. Officers discovered pumpkins broken up on several streets in thearea, but no suspects were located. At 3:33 a.m., a caller reported hearingsomeone throwing pumpkins in the area again. Officers arrived and located asubject dressed in all black. When officers attempted to detain him, he fledthe area, jumping fences. The 17-year-old male subject was eventually detained. There were no other suspects located. The suspect was arrested for the abovelisted charges. He was eventually cited out and released to his mother.

Grand Theft Auto

On November 1 at 7:30 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of West Duarte regarding thereport of a stolen vehicle. The victim parked his vehicle in his assignedcarport stall and locked it. Sometime between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m., the vehicle was stolen. The vehicle is a black, 1995 Nissan Maxima. All keys areaccounted for. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On November 1 at 7:59 a.m., a subject from the same complex in the above incident approached the officer andreported that someone had broken into his vehicle. This vehicle was parkedacross from where the stolen vehicle had been parked. The vehicle was foundwith the trunk ajar and the two front doors open. The loss was undetermined. Investigationcontinuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On November 1 at 9:06 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Maurice regarding a vehicleburglary. The victim reported that she parked her Lexus in the driveway at 6:00 p.m. The vehicle was secured and locked. She returned to her vehicle the nextmorning at 9:00 a.m. and saw the front passenger window smashed. She looked inthe vehicle and noted her purse was missing from the front passenger seat. Thevictim did not hear or see anything during the night. Investigationcontinuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On November 1 at 9:57 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in the 1500 block of Pilgrim Way. The victim parked hisvehicle on the street in front of his house at 6:00 p.m. The vehicle wassecured and locked. The victim returned to the vehicle at 9:00 a.m. the next morning and noticed the inside had been ransacked. The stereo, navigationsystem and an iPod were taken. The victim did not hear or see anything duringthe night. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On November 1 at 10:07 a.m., a resident in the 300 block of Norumbega called police to report a vehicle break-in. Thevehicle was broken into sometime between 5:00 and 7:30 a.m. in the morning. Thevictim's purse was taken from the vehicle.

Under the Influence of a ControlledSubstance - Suspect Arrested

On November 2 at 1:47 a.m., a resident in the 900 block of South Primrose called police and reported unknownsubjects on his roof. Officers responded, but no subjects were located on theroof. The officer noticed that the reporting party was displaying signs ofdrug usage. After checking the subject further, the officer determined that hewas under the influence. The subject was arrested and taken to Monrovia PoliceDepartment, where he was charge with being under the influence of a controlledsubstance.

Theft Prevention from Vehicles

Always lock your doors and roll up all windows whenyou leave your car. Car thieves regularly patrol parking lots and try doorhandles to see if they will open. They will even try door handles on carsparked in driveways late at night when you are sleeping. They are hoping foran unlocked vehicle that they can get into quickly and they will take anythingleft inside. You should always store valuable items in the trunk, so that acriminal does not see them and become tempted to break into your vehicle.

Highlighted Activity for the Weekend of October 20-26, 2011

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 583 service events, resulting in 114 investigations. Following are the last week's highlighted issues and events:

Neighborhood Watch Report

Beginning November 1, 2011, the Monrovia Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Report will be available on the City of Monrovia website, www.cityofmonrovia.org, under the Police Department section.

Public Demonstration

On October 21, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) conducted a demonstration in the 600 block of West Huntington protesting Trader Joe's. There were approximately two-hundred supporters in attendance. The demonstration began at 12:00 noon, and at 12:30 p.m., they walked through the Huntington Oaks shopping center and proceeded to the Trader Joe's Corporate Office in the 800 block of South Shamrock. They held a rally there for nearly an hour. At that time, the group was approached by officers from the police department and instructed to leave per Penal Code Section 602(a) at the request of Trader Joe's security, and the group eventually dispersed. The remainder of the time they stayed on the church grounds, where they had permission to stand.

Grand Theft Investigation

On October 23 at 12:16 p.m., a female subject called police and reported that she had just been robbed of her cell phone. When officers arrived, she stated that she had advertised her IPhone on Craigslist for sale. She met with the potential buyer at Mayflower and Huntington. When she handed the cell phone to the subject, he took it and ran east across Mayflower and out of sight. Officers responded and checked the area, but met with negative results.

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

On October 23 at 3:26 p.m., officers responded to the report of a male adult drinking alcohol while driving through a business parking lot in the 300 block of West Huntington. Officers arrived and arrested the driver for driving under the influence and his vehicle was stored.

Commercial Burglary

On October 23 at 11:04 p.m., a car with three occupants pulled up near a gas station at Shamrock and Huntington. A male subject ran into the store and took a case of beer and ran directly out to the waiting car. The clerk obtained the license plate of the car. An officer went to the address the vehicle was registered to and waited until the car returned. The officer was able to detain the suspect, and the stolen property was located. The witness positively identified the suspect and the vehicle. Based on investigation, only one suspect was charged and held.

Vandalism

On October 24 at 10:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of South Primrose regarding vandalism. They arrived and found gang graffiti on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of Primrose and Montana, and on the limit line on the street. The graffiti was written in black spray paint. Graffiti removal was notified.

Vandalism

On October 24 at 4:34 p.m., additional gang graffiti was reported in the 1100 block of South Primrose. Graffiti removal was notified.

Residential Burglary

On October 25 at 6:00 a.m., a resident in the 800 block of California left their house. When they returned at 5:00 p.m., they found their home had been burglarized. The suspect gained entry by climbing through an unlocked second floor window. Two laptop computers and thumb drives were stolen. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On October 25 at 6:26 a.m., an employee of a restaurant in the 500 block of West Huntington reported that someone had broken into a customer's vehicle. An officer responded and found a rear window had been shattered. A green backpack containing documents and a stethoscope was taken. No witnesses. Investigation continuing.

Residential Burglary

On October 25 at 9:54 a.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 700 block of Monterey regarding a burglary. The victim had left an hour earlier and returned to find a bedroom window open and a laptop missing. The suspect(s) removed the window screen and forced the lock to gain entry. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

On October 25 at 1:17 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the intersection of Alta Vista and Chestnut on the report of a vehicle burglary. The victim said his vehicle was broken into the day before, between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., but he was unable to report it then. The suspect(s) broke the driver side window and removed a clipboard from the front seat which contained $200 in cash. No witnesses were located. Investigation continuing.

Illegal Fire Setting

On October 25 at 3:57 p.m., Monrovia Fire Department advised they were responding to a small fire on the tracks in the 1400 block of South Alamitas. Officers responded to assist. It was determined that someone set fire to some trash. The fire was put out. A similar fire was reported at the same location a week prior. No witnesses were located, but indications are that it may be school kids that are causing these fires after school. Extra patrol will continue in the area. Investigation continuing.

Burglary

On October 26 at 9:28 a.m., an officer responded to a business in the 500 block of West Huntington regarding a theft that had just occurred. When the officer arrived, the reporting party told him a female subject who had been wandering in the store walked out and the anti-theft alarm went off. The reporting party saw the female get into a vehicle and leave, but was able to obtain the license plate number. A check of the video and the sales floor indicated the female had taken five Android eReaders valued at $1150 dollars. Investigation continuing.

Shots Heard

On October 26 at 6:39 p.m., dispatch received numerous calls of shots heard over a wide area of the north end of town. The majority of calls seemed to indicate the shooting occurred somewhere in the area of 400 to 600 blocks of Norumbega. Pasadena's helicopter responded and searched the area with ground units. Officers searched along the wash and door-to-door in the area for over an hour, but were unable to locate the source of the gunfire. No witnesses or suspects were located. Investigation continuing.

Residential Burglary

On October 26 at 8:30 a.m., a resident who lives in the 400 block of North Primrose left her home. When she returned at 10:15 p.m., she found someone had forced her back door open. It appears that nothing was stolen. The suspect may have been scared off when a motion detector lamp activated when the door was forced open. Investigation continuing.

Special Enforcement Team Activity Report

On October 20, at approximately 1:42 p.m., Monrovia Police Department's Special Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on the westbound 210 Freeway at Baldwin. A consent search of the vehicle revealed paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking. Officers noticed foil inside the console and dashboard area of the vehicle. A hidden compartment was located and approximately half a pound of cocaine and methamphetamine were found inside the compartment. The driver was arrested and charged for transportation and sales of both cocaine and methamphetamine.

During the last seven-day period, the PoliceDepartment handled 551 service events, resulting in 91 investigations. Following are the last week's highlighted issues and events:

Vehicle Burglary

On October 13 at 9:49 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported at a hotel parking lot in the 300 block of West Foothill.During the investigation, the officer checked video surveillance of thelocation. He observed a male Hispanic subject approach the victim's vehicleand enter through the passenger door. The window had been left cracked open andthe suspect reached in and unlocked the door. He then removed the car stereoand a cell phone, which was left on the passenger seat. The suspect was lastseen getting into a tan SUV and leaving the area. The investigation iscontinuing.

Homicide Investigation

On October 14 at 5:18 a.m., the Monrovia Police Department received a 911 call from a resident in the 200 block of NorthMayflower reporting a shooting. The Monrovia Police Department responded tothe location and discovered a 63-year-old male had been shot inside the house. TheMonrovia Fire Department also responded. The victim was pronounced deceased at 5:29 a.m. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau wascalled and assumed the primary investigative responsibility with the MonroviaPolice Department's detectives assisting. There were no arrests made inthe case and the case will be presented to the District Attorney's officefor filing consideration once the investigation is completed.

Attempt Strong-arm Robbery

On October 14 at 1:29 p.m., an attempt robbery occurred at a fast food restaurant in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. A female subject was sitting by herself inside the location with herpurse on the table in front of her. A male Hispanic in his late teens enteredthe restaurant, approached the female and grabbed her purse. The femaleimmediately grabbed her purse, as well, and the two were struggling for it. The female was pulled to the ground during the struggle, at which time the suspectgave up and ran outside. A witness followed the suspect outside and saw himget into the rear passenger side of a newer-model, blue, 4-door Nissan Altima,driven by a male black. The suspects fled east on Cypress, out of sight. Thesuspect had facial hair and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with "Monrovia"printed on the front in white, as well as black shorts and black Vans typeshoes. Officers, including the Special Enforcement Team and the Foothill AirSupport helicopter, searched for the suspect vehicle, but it was not located.

Driving Under the Influence -Suspect Arrested

On October 15 at 12:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of West Duarte regarding a possible drunk driver. The reporting party followed the vehicle off the freeway and informed dispatchof his direction of travel. Officers located the vehicle in the 900 block of West Duarte, and after investigation, determined the driver to be under theinfluence. The driver was arrested.

Medical Assist / Drug Overdose

On October 15 at 1:42 a.m., officers responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of North Encinitas and found thevictim had overdosed on Heroin. He was transported to a hospital fortreatment. Officers recovered drug paraphernalia, along with Heroin, which wasnext to the victim when they arrived. He was charged with possession of acontrolled substance, being under the Influence of a controlled substance, andpossession of a syringe.

Traffic Collision / Driving UnderInfluence - Suspect Arrested

On October 15 at 4:30 a.m., a traffic collision occurred in the area of Mountain and Olive involving a possible drunkdriver. Officers arrived on scene and determined the driver was intoxicatedand he was arrested for driving under the influence.

Mental Evaluation

On October 15 at 12:50 a.m., a subject entered a night club in the 300 block of South Myrtle without paying andimmediately became aggressive with the patrons. Security guards had tophysically remove him from the location. When officers arrived and contactedthe subject, he was extremely delusional and continued to exclaim that everyonewas going to die. The officers detained the subject and he was taken to a hospital,where he was held for 72-hour mental evaluation.

Medical Assist / Air Rescue - Monrovia Falls

On October 16 at 2:00 p.m., a medical assist was requested for a female adult that was hit in the head with a rock at Monrovia Falls. Monrovia Fire Department paramedics responded and handledthe call. Police were called back to the falls regarding a 49- year-old male subjectthat decided to climb above the falls to find the subject(s) that dislodged therock. The male subject got stuck on a ledge and could not go up or down. The LosAngeles Sheriff's Department responded with a helicopter and removed themale subject from the rocks.

Embezzlement

On October 19 at 9:52 a.m., the victim/owner of a business in the 300 block of West Maple and a witness came into thelobby of the police station to file an embezzlement report. On October 14,they found a piece of paper in their copy machine that had been altered to thebenefit of a female employee. They became suspicious, conducted audits, andput together packages of checks from different banks that had been altered tothe benefit of the same employee. The employee has defrauded the company of alarge sum of money. The investigation will continue.

Everything you've wanted to know about Monrovia Crime is there...the big issues they face are vandalism (graffiti?) and drug/alcohol violations. There are a smattering of burglary and auto break-ins on the map.

What does it tell us? Right now we are in a clear zone, nothing going on Poinsettia Avenue but plenty going on around us to pay attention to what we see on the street and report it to MPD as we see it. Certainly it shows that north of Foothill isn't exactly pristine and we need to remain vigilant with locking doors and keeping stuff we want to keep locked up safe and sound.

Theft / Receiving Stolen Property- Suspect Arrested

On October 6 at 11:39 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a business in the 2000 block of South Myrtle regarding thetheft of an iron grate from a sewer drain at the location. The officer went tothe recycling center in the 100 block of West Duarte to see if anyone had triedto get money for the grate, but did not find the grate there. While walkingback to his patrol unit, he observed a male subject pushing a cart with an irongrate on it. The grate weighed 125 pounds. During the investigation, the suspectadmitted to stealing the grate. He was arrested and brought to the policestation for booking.

Warrant Arrest - SuspectArrested

On October 6 at 9:09 p.m., officers noticed a suspicious subject trying to hide from them as they were driving theirpatrol unit in the area of Alta Vista and Maple. The subject was contacted,identified, and found to have an outstanding narcotics warrant. He was arrestedand taken into custody.

Driving Under the Influence -Suspect Arrested

On October 6 at 10:08 p.m., officers responded to a gas station in the 800 block of East Huntington on the report of amale subject sleeping in his car. The officers arrived and found the vehiclesitting at one of the gas station pumps. The subject was passed out behind thewheel and the engine of his vehicle was running. The officers could smell thestrong odor of alcohol emitting from the subject's breath. The suspectwas determined to be under the influence and was arrested.

Non-Injury Traffic Collision /Driving Under the Influence

On October 7 at 2:14 a.m., a traffic collision was reported in the 2100 block of South Peck Road. An officerresponded and determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driverwas arrested and taken into custody.

On October 7 at 3:05 a.m., an officer responded to the scene of a traffic collision and found the driver to be underthe influence of alcohol. The reporting party had followed the driver from Hollywood. The driver was arrested.

Disorderly Conduct / Peeping

On October 7 at 6:27 a.m., a female subject was taking a shower at a residence in the 100 block of West Cypress. Sheobserved a shadow across the street that appeared to be the silhouette of amale subject. She yelled out that she could see him and saw a male subjectjump out from the darkness. She described the subject as a male Hispanic,unknown age, last seen getting into a smaller, white compact car. Officersconducted an area search, but could not locate the suspect. The investigationis continuing.

Shots Fired

On October 8 at 1:30 a.m., an officer reported hearing several shots fired east of his location at Ivy and Chestnut. He started in that direction immediately. Calls came in from the area of 200 East Colorado reporting shots fired, but no victim or suspect information was given. Officers were in the area very fast and the Foothill Air Support Team airshiparrived quickly and began checking the area. No victims or suspects werelocated and no bullet impacts could be found. Area hospitals were alsochecked, but not victims had reported for treatment.

Weapons Offense - SuspectArrested

On October 8 at 9:46 p.m., Special Enforcement Team officers were working an area regarding gang enforcement whenthey observed several subjects who appeared to be gang members walking in thearea of the Monrovia/Duarte border, at California and Euclid. They turnedtheir police unit around to contact the subjects, and as they did, theyobserved a white Chevy Lumina occupied by four young male subjects and peoplein the area were running away. Because of the suspicious circumstances, theydecided to stop the car and investigate.

Upon contact, the occupants acted very strange. Theywere nervous and making statements about a friend who was stabbed at a locationon California. During a pat-down search of one of the occupants,the officer located a loaded revolver. The suspect was arrested for possessinga concealed weapon and was taken into custody. The gun was determined to havebelonged to a deceased person. The suspect was later transported to Eastlake JuvenileHall.

Monrovia police were informed shortlyafter the stop that the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department wasinvestigating the stabbing of a young male subject by several other males at aparty in the 2100 block of South California.

Strong-Arm Robbery

On October 8 at 7:17 p.m., an employee of a business in the 400 block of West Huntington was leaving for a break whena male subject grabbed her purse and pushed her to the ground, causing minorinjury to her elbow. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, wearing bluejeans, a dark hat, a Pendleton-type shirt, and white shoes. The victim did notrequire medical attention. Officers responded and made an area check, but wereunable to locate the suspect or the stolen purse. Investigation continuing.

Vandalism

On October 9 at 1:56 p.m., officers located several locations in the City of Monrovia that had been vandalized with graffiti. Maroon, black, and green paint was found at each location. At the end of shiftthat same day, several other locations were discovered. Investigationcontinuing.

Assault With a Deadly Weapon

On October 9 at 11:55 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia Methodist Hospital regarding a victim that checkedhimself in with a stab wound to his right thigh. An officer contacted thevictim, who stated that he was standing in front of his house in the 200 blockof West Cypress at about 11:00 p.m. and was drinking a beer. He was approachedby two male subjects. One of the subjects asked the victim to share his beer. When the victim refused, one subject punched him in the face and the otherstabbed the victim in his right thigh with an unknown sharp object. Bothsuspects ran westbound on Cypress.

The victim reported that he does not know the suspects. They are described as two male blacks in their twenties; one suspect waswearing a dark baseball cap with the letter "D" on it and the otherwas wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. The victim's injury was minor and he wastreated and released from the hospital.

Vehicle Burglary

On October 10 at 6:20 p.m., a vehicle burglary was reported at a business parking lot located in the 500 block of South Mountain. One of the vehicle windows was smashed and cash and a GPS unit werestolen.

Assault With a Deadly Weapon -Suspect Arrested

On October 10 at 7:58 p.m., police received a call from Arcadia Methodist Hospital. They had a stabbing victim in the emergencyroom. The victim said he was drinking and playing cards with family members ata residence in the 800 block of West Olive. He began to argue with his cousin/suspect,which escalated into a physical fight. Family members broke up the fight andthey separated.

A short time later, the suspect returned and began threateningeveryone by brandishing a knife. The victim and suspect became involved inanother physical altercation, after which, the victim noticed a deep lacerationon his left wrist. The suspect's brother also suffered a cut on his finger asa result of his efforts to break up the fight. Officers went to the locationand arrested the suspect without incident.

Theft

On October 10 at 8:16 p.m., police received a call reporting a victim chasing a suspect on foot in the area of Primroseand Lemon. The victim exited a building and saw the suspect stripping partsfrom his bicycle, which was locked in a bicycle rack. The suspect stole thefront wheel, forks, handle bars, and seat. He ran southbound through a parkand out of site. He was described as a male white, 20 years old, 6'4",thin build, dark curly hair, wearing a gray beanie, dark blue windbreaker, darkshorts, and he had a black backpack. Officers responded, but the suspect wasnot located.

Grand Theft Auto

October 11 at 6:25 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of South Violet regarding a stolen vehicle. Thevictim parked his vehicle on Linwood at Violet in the evening and secured it. He returned to his vehicle in the morning and found it missing. There was nobroken glass on the ground where the vehicle was parked, all keys wereaccounted for, and no one had permission to take his vehicle. The vehicle is awhite, 4-door Honda Accord.

Grand Theft

On October 11 at 9:13 a.m., a victim reported the theft of a water-tank trailer from a construction site at the cornerof Magnolia and Chestnut. The reporting party told the officer the trailer wasstolen from the location during the night.

Suspicious Circumstances / HazMatIncident

On October 11 at 6:27 p.m., a caller reported a release of some type of chemical at a market located in the 300 blockof West Huntington. The Monrovia Fire Department responded and advised theywould be handling the incident as a bomb threat/HazMat incident. When officersarrived, they learned a male suspect, for unknown reasons, ran into the storeand discharged a dry-chemical fire extinguisher. The building was evacuated. None of the occupants became ill or showed any sign of exposure to anythingdangerous. The suspect was described as a male white, 25 yeas old, 5'10",with a thin build. He drove away in a peach colored, 2-door vehicle. The HazMatunit from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and determined thesubstance was non-toxic and the scene was cleared. Investigation continuing.

Possession of a Controlled Substance/ Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Warrant - Suspect Arrested

On October 12 at 8:14 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of West Colorado regardingsuspicious subjects living in a shed. The officer arrived and contacted thesubjects. He conducted a computer check on them and found the female subject hada warrant for possession of a controlled substance. A search of her propertyrevealed she had a baggie of methamphetamine and a drug smoking pipe in a smallpouch. She was arrested for the above listed charges.

Residential Burglary

On October 12 at 10:22 a.m., a resident in the 400 block of North Encinitas was called by his alarm company to reportan alarm activation at his home. He responded to his home and saw the garagedoor and the rear door of his home were open. He then called police. Officersarrived, cleared the house and did not find anyone inside. The victim did awalk through with the officers, but could only determine an Ipad and a watchmissing at this time.

How toBurglar-Proof Your Doors

Burglars break into your home when they believe noone is around so they can take your most valuable possessions. They look forhouses that appear to be easy to get inside, either through a window or a door. It is very important to make sure your doors are as secure as possible. Aburglar doesn't care if they break in through the front or back door of ahouse. If they feel the front door is well hidden, it becomes an easy target. Ahouse with overgrown trees and bushes can block the view of the front door,giving criminals a perfect spot to hide while they make their way inside. Keepplant growth trimmed back so thieves cannot use them as a hiding place.

Before adding any security devices to your door,examine it to see if it hangs properly and was installed correctly. Make surethere are screws in every hole for each hinge. The more securely a door isattached to the wall, the harder it will be to break down. Create new holes ifthe wood is rotted out and the screws are barely hanging on, and once the dooris on as tightly as possible, you can include new locks and bolts.

Battery With Serious Bodily Injury / Resisting and Delaying aPeace Officer - Suspect Arrested

On September 29 at 8:41 p.m., callers reported a fight in the 400 block of Hurstview. Two male subjects were arguing andbegan to fight. The suspect moved aggressively toward the victim, and thevictim struck the suspect once in the head to defend himself. The suspect then grabbedthe victim and viciously bit the victim multiple times causing visible woundsthat may require further treatment. Officers arrived and detained bothsubjects. While being detained, the suspect suddenly raised his arms in an attemptto go after the victim again and struck the officer in the face with his arm. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody without further incident. Theofficer was not injured.

Driving Under the Influence -Suspect Arrested

On September 30 at 1:58 a.m., officers observed a vehicle straddling lanes while sitting at the light on Duarte atMyrtle. They watched as the light cycled three times without the drivermoving. The officers approached the car and observed the driver slumped overin his seat. They alerted the driver and he jolted awake. They told him toturn the car off, but he put it in neutral and the car rolled slowly back andbumped the police unit behind it. No damage was sustained after the slightbump between vehicles. The driver was determined to be under the influence ofalcohol and arrested.

Fight in Progress

On September 30 at 2:37 a.m., callers advised dispatch a fight was in progress in the 300 block of Norumbega. Officersarrived and detained four subjects. They determined the subjects were familymembers and had been involved in a heated discussion, which resulted in onefamily member getting extremely upset. As they tried to get him back in thecar they had been driving in, he resisted them. The investigation revealedthat no crime had occurred and there were no injuries, and no one desired prosecution.

Commercial Burglary - SuspectsArrested

On September 30 at 8:52 p.m., police responded to a business in the 500 block of West Huntington regarding a burglary. Store loss prevention observed a male and female subject enter the store. Themale subject selected a pair of shorts and put them on under his pants. He thenleft the store without paying. He went to a car outside the store and waited. Thefemale concealed about $400 worth of jewelry on her person and entered thedressing room. Officers arrived and detained the male suspect, locating thestolen property. The female continued to shop and was seen removing tags and concealingmore items. The female was detained inside the store. All of the items shehad removed tags from were concealed in a bag she was carrying. Neithersubject had money or any means of paying for the items. After review of thefacts and interviews with the suspects, they were both arrested and chargedwith commercial burglary.

Vandalism

On October 4 at 11:12 a.m., a city employee reported vandalism at a park in the 300 block of East Lime. An officer respondedand found the suspect(s) had written gang graffiti at several locationsthroughout the park. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Tampering

On October 4 at 3:15 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 700 block of South California. The victimreported that her white Honda, which was parked in the rear carport, had beentampered with during the night.

Grand Theft Auto

On October 4 at 3:33 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of South Shamrock regarding astolen vehicle. The reporting party last saw the vehicle on Sunday, October2. The vehicle is a Black, Chevy Silverado truck with no license plates on it.

Receiving Stolen Property - SuspectArrested

On October 5 at 3:30 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a subject at Foothill and Mountain for a trafficviolation. The officer obtained consent to search the vehicle from the solooccupant. A Kindle electronic book was found, prompting a suspicious storyfrom the driver. Evidence indicated the device belonged to a female subject from Duarte. The female subject was contacted and confirmed her Kindle wasreported stolen to the Sheriff's Department a week prior. The suspect wasarrested for receiving stolen property.

Suspicious Circumstances / Possessionof Narcotics Paraphernalia - Suspect Arrested

On October 5 at 4:50 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at Foothill and Mountain. Hecontacted the two male occupants, who said they were from Covina. The subjectshad no reason to be in the area at that time of the morning. The driver was drivingon a suspended license and was found to be on parole for receiving stolenproperty. He had a large butcher knife in the door panel of the driver's sidedoor. The passenger was found to be in possession of a methamphetamine pipe. Thevehicle was searched and the following suspicious items were found: Arealistic-looking black pellet pistol, bandanas, a baseball bat, and bothsubjects had latex gloves in their possession. State parole was contacted. The passenger was arrested for possession of narcotics paraphernalia and thevehicle was impounded. Investigation continuing.

Case Update - Receiving StolenProperty Arrest

On the morning of October 1, an officer and eightpolice explorers canvassed an area of Monrovia in an attempt tolocate the victim of and crime, where two bicycles were stolen and a suspectwas arrested. They covered a large portion of the northeastern part of townhanding out flyers and speaking with residents. The area covered streets eastof Canyon and north of Foothill. At noon, a subject from the 200 block ofValle Vista called to report he had arrived home and found the flyer in hismailbox. He reported that he had two bicycles stolen from his porch on September 16, 2011. He stated that the bikes had been secured with a blue cable lock thatwas cut some time during the night. He was able to describe the colors of the bicyclesfrom a black and white photograph he was shown. The cable lock was recoveredby the officer and a supplemental report completed. The bicycles will bereturned to the owner.

In addition, the film is clear so the window will remaincompletely transparent. A burglar won't even know the glass is protected untilthey try to break it. An option for homes that have windows that slide open ona track is to secure them by installing latches that make them difficult toopen. You can also find bolts and locking pins for sliding windows.

Ensuring your windows are burglar proof is anessential task for every home owner, but it is important to remember that youmay need to use the windows as an escape route during a fire or otheremergency. Make sure you still have the ability to get out through a window ifit becomes necessary to do so.

Coyotes on the street 10/5/11

Coyotes in a pack of 3 were scavenging and hunting on the street the evening of 10/5/11 between 10:30 and 11:30PM. MPD was called when they started making noises and it sounded as if something was being killed.

I was just coming home from a concert downtown when I spotted them on my driveway.

In talking with the responding MPD officer it was learned that coyotes are a problem here. There are a few common sense things to do to prevent them from coming on the street. First and foremost is to not leave pet food out at night. Secondly don't allow small animals out at night unless you are with them as that is a potential food source, especially when they are travelling in a pack.

When you do spot a coyote stay safe and call MPD. Call their Animal Control during the day at (626) 256-8000. Or call them at night via their Cell Watch line 626-357-2355.

Theft from Vehicle

On September 22 at 9:08 a.m., a resident in the 600 block of Vaquero reported a theft from his vehicle. The victim hadparked his vehicle during the late night, leaving the vehicle unlocked. Theresident returned to his vehicle in the morning and discovered his vehicle hadbeen ransacked and his wallet was missing. The wallet contained credit cardsand cash. No suspect(s) were seen or heard.

Petty Theft from Commercial Business

On September 22 at 10:47 a.m., a business in the 1500 block of California reported three pressure washers stolen from theproperty. The pressure washers were being stored outside the building in theparking lot adjacent to Evergreen. The equipment was last seen at the close ofbusiness. When they opened in the morning, employees discovered the loss.

Injury Traffic Collision

On September 22 at 3:36 p.m., a Honda Civic was traveling west on Duarte Road. The driver fell asleep and collidedhead-on into a pickup truck, which was traveling east. Both drivers sustainedinjuries. The driver of the pickup truck had to be extracted from the vehicleby cutting the driver's door with the "Jaws of Life." Both driverswere taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Missing Person Located

On September 24 at 4:55 p.m., an officer on patrol in the area of Foothill and Canyon observed a vehicle impedingtraffic. The officer stopped the driver. A check on the license platesreturned a hit for a missing person, a 78-year-old female out of Cathedral City,last seen two days prior. The female appeared disoriented and was brought tothe police station. The woman had no family in the area. Cathedral City PoliceDepartment was contacted and took custody of the woman.

Spousal Battery - Suspect Arrested

On September 25 at 1:00 a.m., officers responded to a family disturbance in the 400 block of Genoa. When the officersknocked on the door, it was answered by the 14- year-old son, who appearednervous. The son directed the officers to his parents' bedroom, where theyfound the father hiding under the bed. A subsequent investigation revealed thefather had battered his wife. He was arrested. When the suspect was placed inthe backseat of the patrol vehicle, he began to bang his forehead against the Plexiglasdivider. Officers had to restrict his movement to prevent him from harminghimself. He was then taken to Monrovia Police Department without furtherincident. The suspect did not sustain any injuries.

Public Intoxication - SuspectArrested

On September 25 at 2:15 a.m., officers were contacted by a citizen who reported three male subjects causing a disturbancein the 100 block of West Lemon. One of the subjects was punching streetsigns. Officers located and contacted the subjects. Two of the subjects werefound to be intoxicated and unable to care for themselves, and they werearrested. The third subject had been drinking, but was not found to beintoxicated. He was identified and released at the scene.

Commercial Burglary

On September 26 at 7:20 a.m., an officer went to a church in the 100 block of East Foothill regarding a burglary. The reportingparty showed the officer a hinge louver window that had been left unlocked. This is where the suspects made entry. The suspect(s) then used a screwdriveror similar type of pry tool to force a number of interior doors open; however,according to the reporting party, nothing appears to have been taken.

Gang Vandalism

On September 26 at 8:30 a.m., an officer went to a business in the 900 block of South Myrtle regarding a vandalism report. The reporting party showed him the north wall of the building, which had ganggraffiti written with green spray paint. The vandalism seems to have occurredbetween September 24 and 26.

Possession of a Controlled Substance/ Violation of a Court Order

On September 26 at 5:10 p.m., officers saw a female subject sitting on the curb in front of a residence in the 200block of East Cherry in violation of a court order. She was arrested. A patdown search revealed a small rock of "crack" cocaine in her pant'scoin pocket. She was arrested and taken into custody.

Grand Theft Auto

On September 27 at 1:16 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 1300 block of South Fifth regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim reported that her vehicle was stolen from the street sometimeovernight. The vehicle was locked, but does not have an alarm. There was nobroken glass on the ground where it was parked. The vehicle is a white, 4-door,1994 Honda Civic.

Death Report

On September 28 at 6:25 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 00 block of Hidden Valley. The caller reported her61-year-old sister in the bathtub and not breathing. Monrovia Fire Departmentparamedics responded and pronounced the woman. Los Angeles County Coroner's Officewas contacted and responded to the scene.

On September 28 at 12:10 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of North Mayflower. The reportingparty had parked his vehicle off the alley by his garage in the evening, butleft it unlocked. He returned to his vehicle at about 11:00 a.m. the next day and found his prescription glasses and GPS missing from the center console. Investigationcontinuing.

Child Molestation - Suspect Sentenced

The suspect was arrested on December 15, 2009, for child molestation. The suspect, a registered sex offender,allegedly, had repeatedly molested his live-in stepdaughter over an 8-yearperiod, beginning when she was only 4 years of age.

The case was assigned to a detective for furtherinvestigation and the District Attorney's review. During the course ofthe detective's investigation, he was able to locate a previous victim ofthe suspect, an ex-girlfriend's daughter. She, too, was the victimof repeated sexual molestation by the suspect, which began when she was 6 yearsold. This case occurred in West Covina in 1995, while thesuspect lived with the victim's mother. .

Three felony charges were filed against the suspectfor the Monrovia case by the Pasadena Superior Court and a jurytrial began on August 10, 2011. On August 16, 2011, the case went to the jury,and in a short 60 minutes, they returned with a verdict: GUILTY on allcounts. Each of the three counts holds a 25-year-to-life sentence, due tohis prior felony sexual assault conviction.

On September 23, the suspect was sentenced to 155years to life for molesting his stepdaughter. This case is a result of detailedinvestigative work by Monrovia Police Department detectives

Assault with a Deadly Weapon /Possession of a Dangerous Weapon / Criminal Threats - Suspect Arrested

On September 15 at 3:10 p.m., an officer on patrol heard a commotion in the area of the 700 block of West Colorado. Theofficer observed two subjects who appeared to be fighting. As the officerapproached, he saw that one of the subjects was bleeding from the face, and thesecond subject had fled on foot. During the investigation, it was learned thatthe subject who fled struck the other subject in the face with a nunchaku. Thesuspect was later located down the street at his residence and was arrestedwithout incident. The weapon was recovered at the suspect's residence. Thevictim was seen by Monrovia paramedics, but declined further medical treatment.

Vehicle Burglary

On September 16 at 6:15 a.m., police received a call reporting a suspect smashing the window of a vehicle on thestreet in the 400 block of Stedman. The possible suspect was last seen in agold Nissan driving east. The incident appears to be an attempted burglary tothe vehicle, but there was no loss. The suspect was not located.

Drug Activity - SuspectArrested

On September 16 at 5:20 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle at Foothill and Fifth. The female occupant was not wearingher seatbelt and claimed she had no way to identify herself. A pat-down searchrevealed she was in possession of a used glass methamphetamine pipe. Nonarcotics were found. She was arrested for being in possession of drugparaphernalia, a misdemeanor, and was taken to the Monrovia City Jail, whereshe was booked, identified, and then released with a citation to appear in court.

Residential Burglary / Hot Prowl

On September 17 at 2:45 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of North Mountain regarding a burglary thatoccurred while one of the residents was inside the home. The wife had left atapproximately 11:00 a.m. Her husband, who is hard of hearing, remained athome. The wife returned home at 2:00 a.m. and found the rooms on the secondstory of the house ransacked and a starter pistol had been taken. After theinitial investigation, it was determined that the suspect had jumped a wall toget into the yard. The suspect then stacked a plastic tub and plastic chairsso he could reach the roof of the home. He then climbed onto the roof, pried ascreen off a window, and entered the home. The suspect ransacked the upstairsrooms only, and then fled through the same open window. The husband did nothear anything other than a loud bang at approximately 3:00 p.m. The investigation is continuing.

Suspicious Circumstances -Suspect Arrested

On September 18 at 2:21 a.m., an officer on patrol in the area east of Myrtle and south of Huntington heard what soundedlike shots fired. Several other people heard the sounds, as well. An areasearch was conducted, but no victims were found. Two male subjects wereobserved by the officer walking in the middle of the street in the 200 block of East Cypress. When the officer attempted to contact them regarding the possibleshots, one of the two subjects refused to stop. Assisting officers confrontedthe subject, but he still would not comply with their demands and began cursingat them. The subject was detained and arrested for resisting and delaying apeace officer. He was identified as a documented gang member. Ultimately, noevidence of shots having been fired was found.

Parolee-at-Large - SuspectArrested

On September 19 at 9:05 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North El Norte regarding a subject takingrecyclables from the trash. When they arrived, the reporting party told themthe subject had taken recyclables and went to the recycling center on Duarte Road. An officer contacted the subject at the recycling yard. A computer checkrevealed he was wanted by state parole. The subject was arrested and taken intocustody.

Domestic Violence - SuspectArrested

On September 19 at 9:29 p.m., police received a call reporting domestic violence at a residence in the 1700 block ofSouth Fifth. A man was arguing with his live-in girlfriend. She attempted toleave the location in her car. He stood in front of the car as she drove downthe driveway. He was hit by the car, causing an injury to his leg. The femalesubject was arrested for domestic violence.

Residential Burglary

September 20 at 8:05 p.m., a resident who lives in the 200 block of East Olive reported a burglary to his residence. He left his residence at 5:00 p.m. and returned at 8:00 p.m. to discover his television, DVD's, and CD's had been stolen. It appears the suspect usedthe victim's ladder to access an unlocked second-story window to gain entry tothe home. Investigation continuing.

Parolee-at-Large - SuspectArrested

On September 9 at 3:50 p.m., Monrovia's Special Enforcement Team officers, augmented by Monrovia, Arcadia, andBaldwin Park police officers, and Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies, wentto the 200 block of Los Angeles to search for a parolee-at-large. The paroleewas found in the attic trying to hide from the officers. He was taken intocustody without further incident.

Department of Child and FamilyServices Referral / Resisting and Delaying a Police Officer - SuspectArrested

On September 10 at 7:30 a.m., officers went to a residence in the 200 block of Madeline to investigate a referral fromthe Department of Child and Family Services. Upon their arrival, they foundthe mother of a minor child under the influence of alcohol. She was sointoxicated she was unable to care for the child. There were six additionaladults in the residence who were all at varying stages of intoxication. The officerstook the minor into protective custody. The mother tried to prevent the officersfrom leaving with the child, and she was subsequently arrested for resistingand delaying a police officer. After a caseworker from Department of Child andFamily Services interviewed the child, she was released to her father.

Fight in Progress / Possession of aConcealed Weapon / Public Intoxication - Suspect Arrested

On September 11 at 1:52 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 block of South Primrose regarding a fight in progress. WhenOfficers arrived, they detained five subjects and conducted pat-down searcheson them. During the investigation, a female subject was found to be inpossession of a dagger. She was arrested for the weapons violation and forbeing drunk in public. The other subjects were released in the field.

Driving Under the Influence / TrafficCollision - Suspect Arrested

On September 11 at 3:04 a.m., officers on patrol in the 100 block of West Huntington heard the sound of a trafficcollision. The officers observed a vehicle leaving the area westbound onFoothill at a high rate of speed. An officer followed the vehicle andeventually caught up to it as it entered into the city of Arcadia. The driverwas detained and was determined to be driving under the influence and wasarrested. The investigation revealed the driver had fled the scene of atraffic collision. It was discovered that the suspect struck an unoccupiedparked vehicle in the 100 block of Stedman. The suspect was arrested fordriving under the influence and hit and run.

Residential Burglary

On September 12 at 3:43 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of Bradoaks heard noises in her home. When she went to check,she found two male subjects, approximately 19 years old, one was wearing abaseball style hat. The two suspects ran from the residence and a whiteChrysler 300 was seen speeding away from the location. Investigationcontinuing.

Residential Burglary

On September 12 at 5:06 p.m., a resident in the 400 block of Oakcliff returned home from work at about 5:10 p.m. and found the inside of his home ransacked. He looked around his home and foundthe kitchen screen had been taken off and a window was open. Investigationcontinuing.

Residential Burglary

On September 13 at 1:09 p.m., a burglary was reported in the 500 block of West Maple. The resident left for work at 8:00 a.m. and returned home at 1:11 p.m. The victim found the backdoor of the residence open. The victim called police and did not go inside. Officers responded and checkedhome to ensure no suspects were inside. No suspects were located. Jewelry anda computer hard drive were taken. Investigation continuing.

Gang Injunction Violation /Brandishing a Weapon - Suspect Arrested

On September 15 at 2:45 a.m., police received a call from a female subject in the 100 block of Montana stating herex-boyfriend, a gang member, was in front of her house and was playing musicloudly. When she asked him to turn down the volume, he responded bybrandishing a pistol in a threatening manner. Officers responded and detainedthe suspect without incident. The pistol turned out to be a realistic-lookingtoy. The suspect was arrested for violating the curfew of the gang injunctionand brandishing a replica firearm. Because the suspect was arrested two daysago for violating the injunction's curfew, he was held for bail on thelikelihood or recurrence.

Disturbing Subjects / Possession of a Controlled Substance - Suspect Arrested

On August 26 at 8:47 p.m., officers responded to the area of Magnolia and Duarte regarding a female subject following a male subject who allegedly took something of hers while at the street fair. Officers located both parties and determined that no theft had occurred. The subjects are boyfriend/girlfriend and were arguing over drugs. Both subjects were patted down and checked for warrants. The male subject was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested.

Attempt Robbery - Suspect Arrested

On August 27 at 1:58 a.m., a suspect in the 300 block of West Lemon reportedly simulated a gun under his shirt and demanded money from a male victim. The victim did not believe the suspect had a gun and fought with the suspect. The suspect fled south on Alta Vista empty handed. Officers arrived and met with the victim and a witness, and also began an area check for the suspect. A male subject matching the suspects description was seen running south on Magnolia and was detained. The victim positively identified the suspect and he was arrested and taken into custody.

Hit & Run Incident - Suspect Arrested

On August 28 at 2:20 p.m., a male subject driving his vehicle east on Primrose drove through the cones blocking the roadway at Lime for the Sunday Farmer's Market event. The coordinator for the event stopped the vehicle inside the event and told the driver the street was closed to vehicle traffic. The male subject became angry and yelled that he lived that way, pointing east. He was told one more time that the street was closed. The driver proceeded through, striking the event coordinator and running over his foot. He sustained a broken ankle. A witness followed the suspect into a parking lot nearby, where officers apprehended him. He was arrested without further incident.

Domestic Violence / Reckless Driving / Possession of Methamphetamine / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia / Child Endangerment - Suspects Arrested

On August 29 at 5:04 p.m., a caller reported a male subject battering a female subject inside a vehicle in the area of Colorado and Alta Vista. The caller followed the suspect vehicle as it drove away wrecklessly on the wrong side of the road, nearly colliding into numerous vehicles along the way. As an officer drove up behind the suspect vehicle, the driver looked back and discarded a small bag into the roadway and continued driving. The suspect then stopped for the officers a distance away from the area where he discarded the bag. The officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and detained the male subject without further incident.

The female did not have any injuries and denied being a victim of domestic violence. The subjects are husband and wife, and they had their two small children, ages one and two, in the backseat of the vehicle. The female was under the influence of a controlled substance and there was drug paraphernalia concealed where she had been sitting inside the vehicle. She was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, and child endangerment.

The bag discarded by the male suspect was recovered and found to contain methamphetamine and a drug smoking pipe. He was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, domestic battery, child endangerment, and wreckless driving. He was later found to have lied about his identity and was found to be on parole; a parole hold was obtained.

The two small children were not harmed during the incident and were taken into protective custody. They were later released to a grandparent after being interviewed by the Department of Child and Family Services.

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

On August 31 at 4:51 p.m., a fast food restaurant in the 100 block of West Duarte Road reported a female in their drive-thru that was driving drunk. Officers responded and detained the female. An investigation was conducted and the female was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.

Strong-Arm Robbery - Suspect Arrested

On August 31 at 5:07 p.m., a business in the 300 block of West Huntington reported a female subject had just taken merchandise out of the store without paying for it. An employee attempted to stop the female, and the female fought with the employee to try and get away with the merchandise. Officers responded quickly and apprehended the suspect. She was arrested for strong-arm robbery and taken into custody.

Burglary

On August 31 at 9:33 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 500 block of West Duarte Road on the report of a burglary. The victim reported that he locked his garage the night before at about 5:30 p.m. and went in for the evening. When he walked out to the garage in the morning at 8:20 a.m., he saw one of the two doors open. He checked his garage and discovered a miter saw and some of his tools were missing. The garage doors had been secured with padlocks. It appears the suspect(s) cut the locks and took them, as they were not located at the scene. Investigation continuing.

Family Disturbance / Mental Evaluation

On August 20 at 7:04 p.m., police responded to a family disturbance in the 900 block of West Olive Avenue. A mother and her 17-year-old son became involved in an argument. During the argument, the son expressed a desire to hurt himself. The son had been drinking alcohol and the mother reported that he has recently been depressed. The son was taken to a hospital and held for mental evaluation.

Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run Traffic Collision With Injury - Two Suspects Arrested

On August 21 at 1:56 a.m., a male and two female subjects were riding in a Toyota truck in the 700 block of Ridgeside Drive, returning home from a party. The male driver and female front passenger began to argue, and the female grabbed the steering wheel from the driver, causing him to crash into a parked car. The driver fled the area, but was located by an officer. The driver and female passenger were intoxicated. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and felony hit and run with injury. The front female passenger was arrested for public intoxication and for interfering with the driver of the vehicle. The second female passenger was taken to a hospital for back pain.

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

On August 21 at 12:06 a.m., an officer on patrol came across a vehicle parked partially in the street at Walker and El Norte with its engine running and the driver sleeping behind the wheel. The driver was determined to be driving under the influence and was arrested.

Commercial Burglary

On August 22 at 4:11 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 900 block of West Huntington on an alarm activation. Upon arrival, they discovered a smashed window. A responsible party arrived and reported that several cell phones and one computer monitor was taken. Investigation continuing.

Commercial Burglary

On August 22 at 11:39 a.m., an officer responded to a business in the 1500 block of South California regarding a burglary. Unknown suspect(s) cut the chain link fence around an outside yard and made entry into a secured area where merchandise is kept. Investigation continuing.

72-Hour Hold / Mental Evaluation

On August 23 at 8:44 a.m., a resident in the 1600 block of Pilgrim Way reported that her grandson was threatening suicide. When officers arrived, the subject became uncooperative and was combative. He struggled with officers as they attempted to take him into custody for his own safety. One officer sustained a minor injury during the incident. The subject was taken to a hospital, where he was held for 72-hour mental evaluation.

Grand Theft Auto

On August 23 at 2:49 p.m., a resident in the 900 block of South Ivy reported his vehicle had been stolen. He reported he had brought a male subject to his house to put some music together. The suspect told the victim he had left his wallet in the victim's vehicle. The victim handed the subject the keys to his vehicle. The suspect entered the vehicle and drove away, heading west on Huntington toward the freeway. The victim's vehicle is a silver, 2000 BMW 740i. Investigation continuing.

Brandishing a Weapon

On August 23 at 4:40 p.m., a subject/victim was sitting in his vehicle in a business parking lot in the 500 block of West Huntington. Another subject in a vehicle parked next to his displayed an offensive hand gesture after the victim asked him what was wrong. A female passenger in the vehicle brandished a gun and the suspects drove off. The victim followed the suspect vehicle and last saw it heading eastbound on Duarte at Myrtle. The suspect vehicle is described as an older model Izusu Rodeo. The investigation is continuing.

Residential Burglary

On August 24 at 4:52 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a large hole in a fumigation tent on a residence in the 100 block of Stedman Place. The hole was directly outside a window; the window was wide open and a light was on. An officer watched the location for some time, but no one was located in or around the house. The location was checked for loss after it was safe to enter and it was discovered that a 42-inch television had been stolen from the residence. Investigation continuing.

Driving Under the Influence Traffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On August 13 at 12:46 a.m., a female driver in an SUV was traveling south on Mayflower when another female driver in a sedan pulled out in front of her in the 1300 block of South Mayflower. The driver of the SUV was unable to stop and struck the sedan. Her SUV drove over the front end of the sedan, she overcorrected, and then struck a wall under the freeway overpass. The SUV was occupied by a 12-year-old female and her mother. The child sustained a broken femur and the mother sustained a broken left foot, both were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the sedan was determined to be under the influence and was arrested. She was also taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Residential Trespassing

On August 14 at 12:15 p.m., the owner of an apartment complex located in the 100 block of Montana discovered that one of the empty units at the complex is being used by what appears to be transients. The transients left evidence of possible identity and the investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery

August 14 at 7:45 p.m., a stolen 1993 Nissan Altima was located at a hotel in the 700 block of West Huntington. The vehicle had been stolen out of Azusa on July 28. No suspect information is known. The owner responded and recovered the vehicle. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto

August 14 at 8:25 p.m., a green, 1997 Honda was stolen from a carport area in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. The victim last saw the vehicle at 9:30 p.m. the previous night. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery

August 15 at 8:20 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 1600 block of Radford Place regarding a suspicious vehicle. The officer located the vehicle parked on the street. It was a reported stolen vehicle and it was unlocked and intact. The victim was notified and responded to recover the vehicle. The victim did not find anything missing from the vehicle. A witness reported seeing a male Hispanic subject, 25-30 years old, 5'10", 200 pounds, with short hair and clean shaven. The subject drove the vehicle to the location and parked it. He then left the location in a Chevy Tahoe that had followed the stolen vehicle and was being driven by a female Hispanic, approximately 25-30 years old. The vehicle was returned to the victim and the investigation is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary

October 15 at 1:54 p.m., an officer responded to the 200 block of South California on the report of a vehicle burglary. The victim reported that her locked vehicle was broken into and her property was stolen.

Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Traffic Accident

On August 15 at 4:07 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North Mayflower Avenue regarding a traffic accident. The incident involved a vehicle that struck a 77-year-old female pedestrian. The Monrovia Fire Department paramedics were on scene and readying the victim to be taken to a hospital. The driver of the vehicle was apparently backing up his van, using only his mirrors, and did not see the female victim and struck her. The female subject fell backward onto the roadway and hit her head on the street. The victim was taken to the hospital and was in critical care overnight. She passed away the next day.

Criminal Threats - Suspect Arrested

On August 15 at 8:09 p.m., police received a call reporting a disturbing subject at the skate park in the 800 block of East Olive. The caller reported that a male subject was threatening people and said he had a gun, which was not seen, but he repeatedly reached into his waistband. The subject left the area prior to the arrival of officers. The suspect was claiming that the subjects at the skate park had taken his wallet, which he believed he had lost there. A short time after the officers left the area, the subject returned and confronted three people at the skate park. He pointed at them and threatened to shoot them. Officers responded and the suspect was positively identified by the victims, arrested, and charged for criminal threats. The suspect did not have a gun.

Attempt Burglary

On August 17 at 10:00 p.m., a resident in the 400 block of South Mayflower reported an attempt burglary. Sometime between August 16 and 17 an unknown suspect attempted to pry open the front door of the residence. There was no loss and the investigation is continuing.

No-Bail Warrant - Suspect Arrested

On August 17 at 1:04 p.m., an officer on patrol observed two suspicious subjects standing next to a vehicle in a parking lot in the 800 block of West Huntington and a third subject was crouching next to the vehicle. One of the standing subjects nudged the subject who was crouching down as if to alert him of police presence. The officer continued driving, but then went back to watch the three subjects. The officer believed the subjects were tampering with parked vehicles and detained them. Warrant checks revealed one of the subjects had two no-bail warrants for grand theft auto. He was arrested for the warrants. The other two subjects were identified and released.

Detective Bureau Case Follow-up

Identity Theft

On Tuesday, August 16, 2011, Monrovia detectives served a search warrant in the 200 block of West Palm on an identity theft suspect's apartment. Detectives found evidence linking the suspect to the crime. Monrovia detectives also found evidence of three additional identity theft victims. The suspect was arrested and the handling detective is continuing his investigation by contacting the three additional victims. This case will be presented to the District Attorney's office for filing considerations. The suspect will be facing a minimum of 10 identity theft allegations/charges. The investigation into the additional victims may produce even more allegations/charges of identity theft.

Residential Burglaries Committed While the Residences Were Tented and Being Treated for Termites

On Thursday, August 18, 2011, Monrovia detectives served a search warrant at a public storage facility in Arcadia in connection with two burglaries. The investigation led the handling detective to believe that one of the suspected burglars had a storage space at this storage facility. The search warrant allows the detectives to enter the storage space and to obtain information and records from the office regarding this space. This investigation is still ongoing.

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 534 service events, resulting in 79 investigations. Following are the last week's highlighted issues and events:

Robbery

On August 4 at 0:22 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of West Huntington regarding a male transient reporting, three male suspects took him inside the restroom in the 700 block of East Lemon and beat him up. The suspects then took his shoes and wallet and fled in an unknown direction. The victim walked to the 800 block of West Huntington and called police to report the incident. There were no suspects found. Investigation continuing.

Mail Tampering

On August 5 at 4:02 a.m., an officer responded to a call in the 500 block of Valmont, regarding two male subjects seen tampering with two mailboxes in the area. An area check was conducted but the suspects were not located. Investigation continuing.

Robbery

On August 6 at 9:03 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of West Huntington regarding a robbery that had just occurred. Officers were advised that a male suspect wearing dark clothing entered the business through the front door and proceeded to the "take out" counter. The suspect pointed a silver revolver at the female employee and demanded the money. The victim handed money to the suspect who fled out the front door and out of sight. Investigation continuing.

Burglary

On August 7 at 3:52 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 1600 block of South Mountain regarding a burglary. On August 5, a male suspect committed an unreported theft, where he stuffed a backpack full of merchandise, then fled prior to being caught. On August 7, the same suspect re-entered the store and immediately began cutting off security sensors from tools using a cutting tool. The property was valued at over $2,000. The suspect began stuffing his backpack and was detained to prevent him from fleeing the store again. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Domestic Violence

On August 8 at 11:52 an officer responded to the 800 Block of West Olive regarding a domestic disturbance. A male suspect became intoxicated and began to argue with his live in girlfriend. The argument escalated and he assaulted her several times causing visible injury. He was arrested for domestic violence and placed in the sobering cell until he could be booked. An emergency protective order was obtained on behalf of the victim.

Vehicle Burglaries

On August 8, dispatch received reports of two window smash auto burglaries. The first occurred in the 400 block of South Alta Vista between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., the loss was an empty purse. The second occurred in the 100 block of North Mayflower between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., the loss was a black briefcase with cash, a telescope and a camera. There is no suspect information at this time. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On August 9 at 6:55 a.m., an officer responded to the 500 block of Fano regarding a stolen vehicle report. The victim told the officer he parked his vehicle on the street in front of the location and left the keys on the seat. He did not lock the vehicle and did not have an alarm. The victim went inside the residence and returned an hour later to discover the vehicle missing. The vehicle is a white, 1991 Honda Accord. Investigation continuing.

Stolen Vehicle

On August 9 at 11:45 a.m., an officer responded to the 400 block of West Walnut regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim told him she parked and locked her vehicle on the street in front of the location at 1:00 a.m. She returned to her vehicle at 4:00 a.m., and it was missing. All keys were accounted for and there was no glass on the ground where it was parked. The vehicle is a green, 1991 Honda Accord. Investigation continuing.

Burglary

On August 10 at 7:45 a.m. an officer responded to a business in the 700 block of West Huntington. The reporting party was a contracted electrician who is working at the location. The suspect(s) apparently forced open (by pushing in) a sheet of plywood covering a dock door on the north side of the building. Once inside, the suspect(s) removed approximately 100 feet of 1 inch copper wire and pushed a metal tool box out of the dock door opening. It appears, due to scrapes on the concrete floor, that the suspect(s) backed up a truck and loaded the metal tool box into it, and left undetected. Investigation continuing.

Attempt Vehicle Burglary

On August 10 at 11:40 a.m., an officer responded to 100 block of West Pomona regarding an attempt vehicle burglary. The reporting party reported that someone tried breaking into one of their vehicles, a Ford F-350 Van. The suspect(s) damaged the rear door lock of the van; however, no entry was made. Investigation continuing.

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 552 service events, resulting in 80 investigations. Following are the last week's highlighted issues and events:

Battery Thefts

On July 29, two curbside box battery thefts were reported in the early morning hours. The boxes were pried open and the batteries stolen. The thefts occurred on Duarte at Magnolia and the 400 block of East Cherry. The investigation is continuing.

Battery

On July 29 at 9:29 p.m., officers were flagged down by a male subject who was bleeding from the mouth. He told officers he was jumped by two to three male juveniles. No suspects were located. Investigation continuing.

Wanted Robbery Suspect Arrested

On July 30 at 11:09 a.m., officers located a named robbery suspect they had been searching for extensively. The suspect was wanted for the robbery of a business in the 300 block of West Huntington that occurred on July 12. The suspect had approached a cashier with his hand in his jacket pocket and threatened to shoot her if she didn't give him the money from the register. After obtaining the cash, he fled the location. Officers had identified the suspect and had been watching several locations he was known to frequent. He was located working on a vehicle in the city of Duarte and was arrested without incident.

Domestic Violence / Child Abuse - Suspect Arrested

On August 1 at 3:49 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of East Los Angeles Avenue regarding a male subject hitting another subject with a bat. When officers arrived, they located a male subject that was bleeding from a head injury. The two suspects with the bat had left the location. The investigation revealed that the subject with the head injury had physically abused his girlfriend, with whom he has two children. He had also physically abused one of the children. This subject was taken to a hospital for treatment. The identity of the two suspects that assaulted the domestic violence suspect is unknown at this time. The injured suspect was arrested after he was treated and released from the hospital. Investigation continuing.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision

On August 2 at 12:06 a.m., police received the report of a vehicle striking the Acapulco Restaurant building. The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. Officers arrived and determined there were no injured patrons in the restaurant and no occupants of the car remained at the scene. A driver's license and an employee badge belonging to a female subject were found at the scene, along with an identification card for another female subject. Further investigation revealed that the driver at the time of the accident was probably the female with the identification card. A location check of her residence was made, but she was not located. The investigation is ongoing and charges for driving without a license and hit and run will be pursued. Investigation continuing.

Felony Vandalism

On August 3 at 7:25 a.m., a resident in the 400 block of East Olive reported her vehicle had been vandalized. The vehicle was parked on the street and had been keyed during the night. At about 12:01 p.m., officers returned to the location, as two other vehicles belonging to the same victim had also been keyed. All of the vehicles had been vandalized sometime between 12:00 p.m. and 7:25 a.m.

National Night Out Against Crime

On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, neighborhoods throughout Monrovia have been invited to join forces with over 34 million people from thousands of communities nationwide who will be participating in the Annual National Night Out Against Crime. This event is designed to: 1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2) Generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts; 3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community relations; and 4) Send a message to criminals, letting them know that our neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back. This event will also kick off the start of our new "Keep Kids Alive Drive 25" residential speeding traffic safety campaign. See the attached flyer for details.

Hot Prowl

On July 22 at 1:20 a.m., a resident in the 800 block of East Lemon was sleeping in the living room when she heard her small dog growling at something outside. She went to investigate and saw a male subject wearing dark colored clothing crawling through her bedroom window. The suspect saw the resident and fled. Officers conducted an area search, but were unable to locate the suspect. The investigation is continuing.

Receiving Stolen Mail / Parole Violation - Suspect Arrested

On July 22 at 9:17 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 800 block of West Walnut due to recent complaints of drug activity. He observed two subjects walking down the street carrying a duffle bag. When he stopped and talked with the subjects, he learned one of them was on parole for burglary. A search of the duffle bag revealed stolen mail from several residences off Royal Oaks. The suspect was arrested for possession of stolen mail and a parole violation.

Armed Robbery - Suspects Arrested

On July 24 at 4:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to a motel in the 900 block of West Huntington. A male victim reported that a male occupant staying in a room at the motel had just robbed him of all his property at knife point. The victim went to the motel to trade items he found in the trash for marijuana. The suspect did not want what he was trading and decided to take everything he had, including his backpack and iPod. The suspect was identified and arrested without incident. The stolen property was located and returned to its owner. A female subject inside the room was also arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, as well as another male subject that had rented the room. A stolen bicycle was found in the second male subject's vehicle, so he was also charged with possession of stolen property.

Wanted Robbery Suspect Arrested

Arcadia Police Department recently circulated a special bulletin regarding a wanted robbery suspect from their city. On July 24 at 10:43 p.m., a Monrovia officer who is familiar with the suspect from prior contacts drove by an area where the suspect was known to frequent. The officer saw the suspect walking near Fifth and Olive with another male subject. The suspect tried to conceal himself behind a bush, but was detained without incident. Arcadia officers arrived and took custody of the suspect.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance / Possession of Burglary Tools - Suspect Arrested

On July 25 at 4:00 a.m., an officer saw a suspicious person in the area of Foothill and Canyon. The officer contacted the male subject and determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Upon further investigation, the officer found the suspect had a flashlight, screwdriver, and box cutter in his possession. The suspect did not have a reasonable explanation for having these tools or being in Monrovia. The suspect was arrested for being under the influence and possession of burglary tools.

Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run Traffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On July 25 at 2:34 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of South Peck, where a vehicle collided into four parked cars. The suspect's vehicle lost one of its wheels, but the suspect continued south on Peck into the City of El Monte on three wheels and an axle. A witness followed the driver and led officers to the suspect. He was detained and officers determined he had been driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Battery

On July 25 at 6:23 p.m., police received a report of a battery that just occurred in the area of California and Walnut. The reporting party stated a male subject had exited a truck and was seen hitting a female, then dragging her into the bushes. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate anyone. The reporting party called again and stated he had been incorrect in the location, and that it was Canyon and Walnut. Officers returned and located a trail of blood from Walnut to Maple. After an extensive investigation, it was determined an altercation had occurred between a teenage boyfriend and girlfriend, and the female may have hit the male in the nose, causing him to bleed. Officers were unable to determine exactly what transpired, as the two juveniles were uncooperative and had no visible signs of injury.

Battery Thefts

On July 26, three curbside box battery thefts were reported. The suspect(s) pried open the box doors and stole several back-up power batteries that are used in case of power outages. The thefts occurred in the 1300 block South Magnolia, the 500 block of Bradbury, and the 1000 block of Royal Oaks. No suspects have been located. Time Warner Cable reported that a few nights ago, the City of Pomona had approximately 60 of these boxes broken into in one night. The same thefts are also occurring in Arcadia and South Pasadena. Investigation continuing.

Residential Burglary

On July 26 at 10:00 p.m., a subject who was house-sitting in the 100 block of North Madison arrived at the home and found the front door ajar. The point of entry into the home was a kitchen window; no forced entry was apparent. The house appeared to be thoroughly ransacked and the actual loss is unknown, since the owners are away. The loss will be determined when the owners return. Investigation continuing.

Possible Drug Activity

July 27 at 12:11 a.m., a caller reported a male subject standing near a blue van in the 900 block of West Walnut that appeared to be smoking marijuana. The caller stated they did not think the person belonged in the area. When the officer arrived, the suspect fled. As he ran, he placed his hands in his sweatshirt. The officer called out commands for the suspect to remove his hands, but the suspect kept running and was able to get into a construction storage yard at the 210 Freeway and Fifth. Containment of the area was set up and the Foothill Air Support Team helicopter assisted in the search. The suspect was not found. He is believed to be associated with a local residence in the area. A methamphetamine pipe was found in the area.

What to do when a city tree falls.

About 1:30 this afternoon a tree branch on the street cracked and fell onto a parked motorcycle. Fortunately it wasn't one of the kids or someone driving by when it happened.

Who do you call? Those trees along the curb belong to the city and they'll clean it up. Call the "Tree Service Hotline" if no one injured at (626) 932-5575. Of course if there are injuries call 911 for more immediate help.

National Night Out Against Crime

Driving Under the Influence / Traffic Collision - Suspect Arrested

On July 14 at 10:49 p.m., a driver was traveling east in the 400 block of West Foothill. She reached down to adjust the car stereo, drifted toward the right side of the lane, and collided into a parked vehicle. During the investigation, it was determined the driver was under the influence and she was arrested.

Public Drunkenness - Suspect Arrested

On July 17 at 8:49 p.m., police received a report of a disturbing subject, possibly intoxicated, at a park in the 300 block of South Myrtle, where a summer concert was being held. An officer responded and located the subject in question on Palm Avenue. After assessing the subject, the officer determined that she was unable to adequately care for herself. She was arrested for public drunkenness and later released after sobering.

Grand Theft

On July 18 at 2:32 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Parkrose regarding a theft. A gardening crew working in the area left two lawnmowers in two different yards while they took a break in the backyard of a house. When they returned to the front of the house, the lawnmowers were missing. The lawnmowers are valued at approximately $1700.00 each. Investigation continuing.

Grand Theft Auto

On July 19 at 9:30 a.m., a white, 1986 Toyota truck was stolen from a parking lot in the 3300 block of South Peck Road. The vehicle was entered into the stolen vehicle system.

Grand Theft Auto

On July 19 at 5:27 p.m., a victim discovered his blue, 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck had been stolen out of a parking lot in the 700 block of East Huntington. An officer viewed surveillance videotape and saw the suspects commit the theft. Two male subjects drove into the lot in a white, Chevrolet Silverado truck, broke into the victim's truck and drove away. Investigation continuing.

Residential Burglary

On July 19 at 5:32 p.m., a male subject returned to his home in the 900 block of West Hillcrest and discovered his front door was unlocked and his dog was out. Further investigation revealed forced entry had been made through the rear glass door. The suspect entered through the rear yard gate. The suspect stole jewelry and cash. Investigation continuing.

National Night Out Against Crime

72-Hour Mental Evaluation

July 8 at 10:30 a.m., a caller reported seeing a female subject carrying a pistol in the 100 block of West Foothill. Officers located the subject, who was now walking on Lime, approaching Magnolia. The officers observed that the female was carrying a pistol. Once the female saw the officers, she immediately complied with their commands. The pistol turned out to be a very realistic replica of a semi-automatic pistol. As the officers interviewed the female, it became apparent she was a danger to herself and others, and she was taken to a hospital where she was held for 72-hour mental evaluation.

Juvenile Problem / Fighting in a Public Place - Suspects Cited

July 8 at 8:44 p.m., officers responded to a park in the 300 block of South Myrtle regarding a fight. Three female juveniles were involved in an altercation over a boy. One female sustained an injury to her hand and was taken to a hospital for treatment. All three juveniles were cited for fighting in a public place.

Traffic Stop / No-Bail Warrant - Suspect Arrested

July 9 at 12:20 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver said that he did not have his driver's license with him, but identified himself and provided a driver's license number. The officer became suspicious and with further investigation, discovered that the driver did in fact have his license on him and he had provided a false name to the officer. A computer check with the driver's actual name revealed a no-bail warrant. The subject was arrested and taken into custody.

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

July 9 at 4:25 a.m., a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation in the 700 block of West Huntington. The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

Suspicious Toolbox

July 9 at 4:00 p.m., security in the 100 block of West Huntington saw a suspicious toolbox in the parking lot on the north side of a building. The security officers had made foot passes in the area and had not seen the toolbox prior to 4:00 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the location to inspect the toolbox. Based on the recent threats reported in the news and the unusual location of the toolbox, the Los Angeles County Bomb Squad was requested and responded to the location. The toolbox was opened by the bomb squad and no suspicious items were found.

Vandalism - Suspect Arrested

July 11 at 6:09 p.m., a witness reported a male juvenile gang member was spray painting gang graffiti in the 100 block of East Walnut in the alley. Officers responded quickly and apprehended the suspect. He was arrested for vandalism. The citizen who witnessed the crime and took action reporting the suspect was rewarded with Monrovia Police Department's $100.00 Graffiti Bounty.

Bicycle Theft

July 11 at 7:06 p.m., a subject who lives in the 700 block of South Myrtle reported his bicycle stolen. His bicycle, a 10-speed silver mountain bike, was secured by locking the front wheel to the bike rack on the third floor of the parking garage. The suspect removed the frame from the front wheel. It appeared that two other bicycles were stolen in a similar fashion, but officers were unable to locate additional victims. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Tampering - Suspect Arrested

July 12 at 11:00 a.m., a business in the 200 block of East Huntington called police to report a male subject rummaging through a car that was not his. When officers arrived, the suspect was gone. One of the officers watched the store's security video and recognized the male subject from prior contact. She quickly apprehended him nearby and he was arrested for vehicle tampering.

Robbery

July 12 at 9:51 p.m., a business in the 300 block of West Huntington reported a robbery. The suspect approached a cashier with his hand in his jacket pocket. He threatened to shoot her if she didn't give him the money from the register. After obtaining the cash, he ran south on Magnolia, then west on Cypress, out of sight. The suspect was described as a male, African American, approximately 30-years-old, six foot tall, about 200 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He had some sort of tattoo next to his right eye. Investigation continuing.

Driving Under the Influence/Marijuana - Suspect Arrested

July 12 at 10:57 a.m., an officer stopped a female driver at Walnut and Fifth. During the investigation, it was determined the driver was driving under the influence of marijuana and the driver was arrested.

Vehicle Burglary

July 12 at 3:42 p.m. an officer responded to the 1600 block of South California, regarding a vehicle burglary. The owner discovered his car was broken into and stereo system and speakers were stolen. Investigation continuing

Vandalism

July 13 at 8:55 p.m., an officer responded to the 500 block of South Mountain regarding a smashed vehicle window. The victim parked his vehicle on the street at 7:45 p.m. When he returned to his car he had discovered the crime. There was no loss. Investigation continuing.
