Celebrate the Arts this weekend in Library Park.

This weekend is it.  The 53rd Annual Celebrate the Arts presented by the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts.  As always its held in Library Park in the heart of Old Town Monrovia.  This year there are 50 fine artists showcasing their art as well as local non-profits sharing what they do in the community.
There will be live and DJ provided entertainment all weekend at Celebrate the Arts.  There will also be Food Trucks.  Saturday will feature Pie and Burger, and My Delight Cupcakery.  Sunday will feature Austyn Premier Hamburgers and Paradise Cookies and Ice Cream.
New this year to add to the fun and excitement is a BEER GARDEN.  All proceeds from the sale of fine craft beer from Pacific Plate Brewery goes to MAFA to help with various community art projects and events during the year.
If you have kids, bring them along as there will be ample for them to do.  One of the sponsors, ChapCare is having a coloring contest.  Another local business is sponsoring the Youth Chalk Art Competition on Saturday.  Please note that this year because of anticipated rain and wet sidewalks Friday and Sunday the competitive Chalk Painting has been cancelled.
Additionally the Friends of the Library will be holding an Art and Collectibles Book Sale on Saturday during the show.
Deets.  Saturday 10/29 10AM-6PM, Sunday 10/30 10AM-4PM, Library Park 321 South Myrtle Avenue, Monrovia 91016

Celebrate the Arts in Library Park 10/12-13

Click the poster for a bigger view of the events taking places this year.  This is the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts (MAFA) 50th Annual Celebrate the Arts.  This Monrovia's biggest art show of the year.

The featured artist this year is Bill Hyatt. He is a wonderful sculptor working in metals. He does them from small to filling entire walls.  Some even include fountains and water features.  Great stuff.

There will be over 50 artists representing a variety of media.  There will be oil, acrylic, photography and jewelry among the many artists at this event. This is a juried event so you can be assured it will be of the highest caliber.

As always there will be a silent auction to help MAFA fund its various art and art education programs.  On the latter many of the kids at MUSD will get their only art education and exposure through out After School Art Program held in conjunction with the Village After School Program.  I'll have a piece there for you to bid on too.

MAFA sadly said goodbye to their webmaster and long time member Doug Gordon who passed away a few short weeks ago. On Sunday the Der Kleiner Panzers Volkswagen Club will hold a special car show in tribute to Doug.  MAFA will have a tribute booth offering up his art for Sale the whole weekend, much of it is photographs of Monrovia.

On both days there will be Urban Art exhibits and demonstrations. Saturdays demonstrations will include kids from Monrovia's Canyon Oaks High School. There will also be a kids art show and ability to create art on Sunday.

Details.  Celebrate the Arts. Saturday 10/12 and Sunday 10/13/2013, 10AM- 6PM daily. Library Park, 321 S Myrtle Avenue, Monrovia CA  91016

Monrovia's first public pub crawl

Monrovia Association of Fine Arts and the Monrovia Old Town Business Association teamed up and put together the first ever Old Town Pub Crawl.  The Pub Crawl will coincide with the next MAFA Art Walk on Myrtle.

Its a pretty simple affair. You buy a Passport for $35 and get a drink at the participation locations.  The business participating are Jake's, T. Phillips, Sena, Rudy's and the London Gastropub.  You present your Passport, they stamp it for you and you get your drink.  Then its off to the next stop enjoying some great art along the way.

Passports can be purchased at Paint n Play Art Studio and Gallery located at 418 S Myrtle just a few doors down from the theater.  You may also purchase them on the MAFA web site HERE.

Free Booze and support the MUSD Schools 12/20

What could be better than free booze and some munchies?  Great Art and a chance to help the MUSD schools bring (keep?) art in the class rooms for the elementary schools.  Members of the Monrovia Association of Fine Arts (MAFA) have donated art for a silent auction that night.  The proceeds will go to help MAFA continue its funding of art programs in the schools and community.

It should be a fun evening.  Very relaxed a half dozen artists showing their work, including me.
