Highlighted Activity for February 9-12, 2017

Shooting Incident – Suspects Arrested
February 9 at 6:50 p.m., officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 100 block of Los Angeles. The victim was sitting in his vehicle waiting on a family member who was inside a residence when two suspects approached him and brandished a firearm. When the victim tried to flee in his vehicle, one of the suspects began firing rounds toward him. The victim was not hit. Responding officers searched the area and located both suspects. The victim positively identified the suspects and both were arrested and taken into custody.
Vehicle Burglaries
On February 9 in the evening, multiple vehicle burglaries were reported to police. Four vehicles were burglarized in the 800 to 900 blocks of W. Huntington and two in the 1100 block of E. Huntington. In all but one of the incidents, the windows were smashed and items left in the vehicles were taken. In the one incident, it appears that someone attempted to use a window punch and damaged the window, but it did not shatter. The investigations are continuing.
Theft of Mail
February 10 at 8:58 a.m., a theft of mail from a residence in the 900 block of Norumbega was reported to police. The mail was taken from the mailbox the day prior. The investigation is continuing.
Petty Theft
February 10 at 6:30 p.m., a petty theft was reported in the 1800 block of S. Tenth Avenue. A package was taken from the mailbox on the porch of the residence. The investigation is continuing.
Domestic Battery
February 10 at 9:15 a.m., a female and male subject were involved in an argument in a business parking lot in the 700 block of E. Huntington in a vehicle. The subjects are boyfriend and girlfriend. The male suspect pulled the female out of the vehicle by her arms and pushed her in the chest. The female victim fell to the ground and hit her head. The suspect fled the area in the vehicle. Officers attempted to contact the suspect, but
he was not located. A wanted person’s entry was made into the law enforcement database for the suspect. The investigation is continuing.
Trespassing – Suspect Arrested
February 11 at 10:39 a.m., a resident in the 1400 block of S. Magnolia called to report her daughter had broken into her residence. The resident had previously completed a no trespassing order for her daughter. Officers arrived at the location and contacted the daughter inside the home. She was arrested for trespassing.
Warrant – Suspect Arrested
February 11 at 11:48 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations on Myrtle at Railroad. The occupants of the vehicle were identified and field interview cards were completed as two of the occupants were documented gang members. One of them was found to have a bench warrant for his arrest. He was arrested for the warrant and taken into custody.
Warrant Arrest / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested
February 11 at 2:50 p.m., officers on patrol saw a subject they knew had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The subject was detained and the warrant was confirmed. The subject was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Residential Burglary
February 11 at 4:15 p.m., a residential burglary was reported in the 800 block of E. Foothill that had occurred on February 9. The victim reported that the rear door to her home had been pried open. There was no loss. The investigation is continuing.
Hit and Run Traffic Collision / Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
February 11 at 5:00 p.m., an injury traffic collision occurred at Colorado and Magnolia. Officers responded and conducted an investigation. One party failed to stop for the stop sign at Colorado and Magnolia, causing the collision. The vehicle then fled the scene and was followed by the victim. The suspect eventually stopped several blocks away. The victim suffered minor complaint of pain injuries. Officers determined the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Medical Assist / Negligent Discharge of a Firearm
February 11 at 8:28 p.m., an officer responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of E. Olive. A male adult was teaching his adult daughter gun safety and discharged the weapon, shooting himself in the hand. A verified complaint will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for negligent discharge of a firearm.
Speeding / Warrant – Suspects Arrested
February 11 at 10:13 p.m., the Foothill Air Support Team helicopter observed two vehicles racing at a high rate of speed and contacted police. Officers responded and were able to locate one of the vehicles involved. The driver was cited for speeding and a passenger was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
Assault / Suspicious Circumstances
February 11 at 11:21 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of E. Pomona Avenue regarding subjects causing a disturbance. When officers arrived, they saw several vehicles leaving the area. An ambulance driver pointed out one vehicle and it was stopped for investigation. The driver was found to have a laceration on his head. One of the passengers was passed out and had a head injury and a second passenger possibly had a broken leg. The subjects stated they were assaulted on Pomona Avenue by a group of people, but would not provide any other information and were uncooperative with the officers. The subjects were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Through further investigation, it was learned that the subjects were involved in a fight. They said they were assaulted by multiple subjects outside of a party at a residence on Pomona that they were attending. They said they did not know who the suspects were or why they assaulted them.
An officer made contact with the residents at the location of the party. The residents told the officers the three victims were not invited to the party and were asked to leave. They said the subjects left the location, but were confronted outside on the street by unknown subjects, who were also not invited to the party, and an altercation occurred. The residents did not know who any of the subjects were and were not able to provide any possible suspect information. The investigation is continuing.
Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
February 11 at 12:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Canyon and Palm regarding a female victim who was thrown on the ground by a male suspect. Officers arrived and located a female with visible injuries. The male suspect was arrested and taken into custody for domestic violence.
Warrants – Suspect Arrested
February 12 at 4:05 p.m., two suspicious subjects were reported in a business parking lot in the 1600 block of S. Mountain. An officer arrived and contacted the subjects. One of the subjects was found to have outstanding warrants for his arrest. The subject was arrested and taken into custody for the warrants.
Warrant – Suspect Arrested
February 12 at 8:34 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Wildrose regarding a subject walking in and out of traffic and yelling at people. An officer arrived and located the subject in the 200 block of S. Mountain. The subject had a bloody lip and appeared intoxicated. Further investigation revealed he was fighting with family members and a computer check revealed he was wanted by San Dimas Sheriff’s Department for felony battery. The subject was arrested and San Dimas Sheriff’s deputies responded to take custody of the suspect.
Burglary Pursuit – Suspects Arrested
February 13 at 3:55 a.m., an officer responded to an alarm activation at a business in the 600 block of W. Huntington. As he entered the parking lot, he saw a silver Toyota Camry with paper plates attempting to flee the location at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspects failed to yield and the officer went in pursuit. The vehicle headed east on Huntington, left onto Mayflower, and turned right onto Chestnut, where the suspects jumped out and ran from the vehicle in the 400 block of W. Chestnut. Neighboring agencies responded to assist in the search for the suspects. Two suspects were located and arrested, the third was not located. Further Investigation revealed that two businesses in the 600 block of W. Huntington were broken into and the vehicle used by the suspects was stolen from the city of Colton.

Highlights May 19-20

Stolen Vehicle Recovered

May 19 at 7:59 a.m., an abandoned vehicle was reported in the 800 block of W. Walnut. An officer arrived to check on the vehicle and found the driver side door handle was damaged, there were no license plates, and the vehicle identification number was covered. A tow service was requested to store the vehicle. They gained entry into the vehicle, allowing the officer to check the vehicle identification number. A computer check revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Hollywood a one week prior. The vehicle was stored and the owner was notified.

Road Rage / Criminal Threats / Warrants – Suspect Arrested

May 19 at 3:09 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Foothill and Magnolia regarding an incident of road rage and criminal threats that just occurred. The female victim reported that the female suspect was driving a silver Honda and cut in front of her on Foothill at Magnolia, as they both were driving east in heavy traffic. The suspect then abruptly stopped her vehicle, causing the victim to stop, as well. The suspect exited her vehicle in the middle of the road, ran up to the victim's vehicle, and began pounding her fists on the window, yelling profanities and threatening the victim. The victim called police on her cellphone.

When the suspect saw the victim calling on her phone, she punched the victim’s side mirror, breaking it, and then fled in her vehicle. She was detained by police. A computer check revealed the suspect had four outstanding warrants for her arrest and a suspended driver's license. The victim positively identified the suspect and she was arrested and taken into custody for the charges and warrants.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery – Suspect Arrested

May 19 at 4:01 p.m., officers were alerted to a possible stolen vehicle in the 1800 block of S. Peck. The vehicle, a blue Honda Civic, was traveling north on Myrtle. An officer in the area saw the vehicle stopped for a red light at Duarte Road. A computer check confirmed the vehicle was reported stolen the day before to the Los Angeles Police Department. The officer followed the vehicle until assisting officers could arrive and then the vehicle was stopped. The driver and passenger, both male adults, were arrested and taken into custody for questioning. The passenger was later released.

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol / Traffic Collision with Injuries

May 19 at 4:40 p.m., a three car collision was reported in the area of Foothill and

Magnolia. A small red vehicle was traveling west on Foothill and ran a red light at

Magnolia, colliding into a white compact traveling north on Magnolia. The white vehicle

was pushed into a small postal carrier truck. Both the driver of the red vehicle and white

compact sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver

of the red vehicle appeared to be intoxicated and there were empty alcohol containers

in his vehicle. A blood sample was taken and the investigation is continuing.

Fraud Report

May 19 at 7:40 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a business in the 600 block of W.

Huntington on the report of a fraud scam. The suspect claimed to be a representative of

the electric company and told the victim he was late with this month’s payment. The

victim did not know it was a scam and sent a Money Gram to the suspect. The

investigation is continuing.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – Suspect Arrested

May 20 at 12:58 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of W. Duarte Road regarding

two male subjects climbing into a clothing donation bin. Officers arrived and contacted a

subject near the bin. Although no theft was substantiated, the investigation revealed one

of the suspects was under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of

drug paraphernalia. The suspect was arrested and held for a sobering period. He was

later released with a citation to appear in court.

Vehicle Burglary

May 21 at 9:05 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in the 700 block of E. Huntington.

The victim parked her vehicle in a business parking lot and went into a business. When

she returned, she found a window smashed and her purse missing from inside the

vehicle. The investigation is continuing.

Weapon Offense / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested

May 21 at 1:49 p.m., an officer was on patrol in the area of Mountain and Royal Oaks

when the officer saw a subject acting suspicious and attempting to hide behind a

dumpster at a closed business. He stopped and contacted the subject. The subject

admitted to having drug paraphernalia. During a pat-down search, a weapon and drug

paraphernalia were found on his person. The subject was arrested and taken into

custody.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – Suspect Arrested

May 21 at 10:35 p.m., a suspicious male subject was reported to the rear of a business

in the 500 block of W. Huntington. Officers responded and contacted the subject, who

was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested

and held for sobering period. He was later released with a citation to appear in court.

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Suspect Arrested

May 22 at 12:32 a.m., a possible traffic accident was reported in a business parking lot

in the 100 block of W. Foothill. Officers arrived and saw one of the involved vehicles

leaving the scene and conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of S. Canyon. During the

investigation, it was determined that no traffic accident had occurred, but the driver was

determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and

held for a sobering period. He was later released with a citation to appear in court.

Felony Vandalism

May 22 at 7:55 a.m., an officer responded to a business in the 1100 block of E.

Huntington on the report of vandalism to a customer's vehicle. It appears the suspect

used some type of paint thinner or a corrosive substance on the victim’s vehicle,

causing damage. The investigation is continuing.

Warrant – Suspect Arrested

May 22 at 7:18 p.m., a suspicious subject was reported near a dumpster in an alley

behind an apartment complex in the 100 block of W. Cypress. Officers arrived and

located a subject matching the description given. A computer check revealed the

subject had an outstanding parole warrant for his arrest. The suspect was arrested and

taken into custody for the warrant.

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested

May 22 at 7:23 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 600 block of S. Myrtle

regarding a subject who was trying to grab one of the employees. Officers arrived and

determined the subject was intoxicated and was trying to talk to his girlfriend, who works

at the location. Although no crime occurred, the subject was too intoxicated to care for

himself and was arrested and held for a sobering period.

Vandalism

May 23 at 2:48 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 1900 block of S. Myrtle noticed what

appeared to be fresh graffiti on the walls of the businesses between the 1900 and 2000

blocks of S. Myrtle. Red spray paint was used to damage the property. The investigation

is continuing.

Highlighted Activity for May 12-15, 2016

Felony Vandalism – Suspect Arrested
May 12 at 6:06 a.m., an officer was dispatched on the report of graffiti vandalism that had just occurred at a business in the 2600 block of S. Peck. Officers responded and located a juvenile subject matching the description of the suspect. The subject was found in possession of two cans of blue spray paint and he had blue paint on his hands and clothing. The suspect admitted to committing the graffiti vandalism with the blue spray paint.
Officers checked the area and additional graffiti vandalism was discovered. Several businesses and vehicles were located with the blue spray painted graffiti on them. One business in the area of Myrtle and Duarte had extensive damage. An expanded check of the area revealed similar graffiti at two Los Angeles County Public Works yards in Irwindale, on curbs in the nearby unincorporated areas of Monrovia, and the Live Oak Bridge above the Santa Anita Wash was also vandalized. Vandalism reports were taken by the Irwindale Police Department and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department on the incidents in their jurisdiction.
Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – Suspect Arrested
May 12 at 7:53 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of W. Colorado regarding the report of a disturbing subject who was approaching pedestrians trying to trade a computer for a cell phone. Officers located the subject and determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance. The suspect was arrested and held for a sobering period. He was later released with a citation to appear in court on the charges.
Residential Burglary
May 12 at 8:33 p.m., a residential burglary was reported in the 1300 block of S. California. The resident left his home at 8:00 a.m. and returned at 8:00 p.m. Upon his return, he found his home had been ransacked. A firearm, miscellaneous jewelry and a computer were stolen. The suspect cut a padlock on a side gate and entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door. The investigation is continuing.
Bicycle Theft – Suspect Arrested
May 12 at 10:14 p.m., a bicycle theft that just occurred was reported in the 2100 block of S. Myrtle. Officers located a suspect in possession of the stolen bicycle at Myrtle and Altern. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Possession of a Controlled Substance – Suspect Arrested
May 13 at 11:12 a.m., police were called to the area of Palm and Primrose regarding a suspect who was selling drugs in the park. An officer arrived and detained the suspect. A consent search of the suspect revealed methamphetamine in his backpack. The suspect was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
Parolee at Large / Felon in Possession of a Firearm / Possession of Controlled Substance for Sales / Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested
May 13 at 5:14 p.m., an officer stopped a truck for a vehicle code violation in the area of Peck and Atara Street. The driver was found to be a parolee at large. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded firearm inside the vehicle, as well as drugs. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody for the above listed charges.
Shoplifting
May 13 at 6:44 p.m., a business in the 900 block of W. Huntington called police to report a theft that had just occurred. A male and female entered the store. The female made a service payment as the male subject looked around the store, and then they left. A few minutes later, the male subject returned and asked for a glass of water. When the employee went in the back to get the water, the subject stole an iPhone that was on the counter. Identification of the female was obtained from the payment records and the investigation continues to identify and locate the theft suspect.
Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
May 14 at 12:19 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 1000 block of S. Myrtle regarding a subject who was intoxicated and staggering down the street. The officer contacted the subject and determined he was too intoxicated to care for himself. The subject was arrested and held for a sobering period.
Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Suspect Arrested
May 14 at 2:05 a.m., an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle in the 2200 block of S. Myrtle for a vehicle code violation. Upon speaking to the driver, the officer noticed symptoms of alcohol intoxication. Through investigation, the driver was determined to be driving under the influence and was arrested. The driver was taken into custody and held for a sobering period. The suspect was later released with a citation to appear in court.
Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
May 14 at 6:08 p.m., a business in the 1600 block of S. Mountain called police to report a suspect detained by loss prevention for shoplifting. The female suspect had removed several items from the store without paying. Loss prevention personnel placed the suspect under citizen’s arrest and officers took her into custody. She was later released on a citation to appear in court on the charges.
Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
May 15 at 12:41 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Norumbega regarding reports of several vehicles racing in the area. When the officers arrived, they located several vehicles. They stopped the vehicles and conducted their investigation. A resident at the location came outside and began interfering with the investigation. The resident had been drinking and would not listen to officers, who requested he go back into his residence. The suspect was extremely intoxicated and continued to interfere with the investigation. He was arrested for public intoxication and held for a sobering period. He was later issued a citation to appear in court.
Weapon Offense
May 15 at 1:27 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a business in the 800 block of S. Magnolia on the report of a weapon offense. The victim was smoking a cigar by the front door of the location. He was confronted by a male Hispanic suspect wearing a green bandana over his face. The suspect told the victim "this is my vario" and exhibited a firearm in his waistband. The victim tried to remain calm and offered the suspect a beer. The suspect took the beer and left the location in a dark-colored Honda Civic. The investigation is continuing.
Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
May 15 at 1:56 a.m., a female victim called police to report her boyfriend had assaulted her and was walking away in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle. Officers located the suspect, who was very agitated and refused to follow the officers’ commands. The suspect became confrontational and one of the officers deployed his pepper spray. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The female victim had sustained minor injuries from the assault, but refused further medical treatment. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody, where he was held pending his court appearance.
Grand Theft Auto
May 15 at 6:29 a.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from the 600 block of E. Lemon. The vehicle stolen was a black, 2005 Toyota Tundra with a chrome toolbox and rack on top. The victim heard his truck start up and when he looked outside, it was gone. A description of the vehicle was broadcast to officers and an area check was conducted, but the vehicle was not located. The investigation is continuing.
Injury Traffic Collision
May 15 at 6:54 a.m., an injury traffic collision was reported at Mountain and Lemon. The driver was on his way home from working a night shift and said he fell asleep at the wheel. He clipped the power pole on the corner of Mountain and Lemon, causing the vehicle to rollover several times before coming to a stop. The Monrovia Fire Department responded to treat the driver for complaint of pain. Edison was contacted and responded to inspect the power pole for damage.
Weapon Offense
May 15 at 7:31 p.m., officers responded to the area of Mountain and Huntington regarding a road rage incident where the suspect pointed a firearm. The incident began as two vehicles were exiting the westbound 210 Freeway at Buena Vista. One of the vehicles cut the other off on Central Avenue. When the vehicles reached the intersection of Mountain and Huntington, the suspect pulled up next to the victim’s vehicle and pointed a black, semi-automatic handgun at the victim. The suspect followed the victim and was last seen heading westbound on Foothill from May. The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, 20 years old, driving a burgundy Suburban with tinted windows and chrome wheels. The investigation is continuing.
Vehicle Burglary
May 16 at 5:39 a.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in the 700 block of W. Olive. The victim parked and locked his vehicle in the evening. When he returned to his vehicle the next morning, he found his tools had been stolen from his truck. There were no signs of forced entry. The investigation is continuing.
