Highlighted Activity - Week of August 5 - August 11, 2010

During the last seven day period, the Police Department handled 561 service events, resulting in 113 investigations. Following are the last week's highlighted issues and events:

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

August 6 at 10:59 p.m., an officer noticed a vehicle traveling west on Foothill from Alta Vista without any headlights on. The vehicle was stopped and during the investigation, the driver was determined to be under the influence. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance - Suspect Arrested

August 7 at 12:27 a.m., an officer observed a suspicious person at the corner of Myrtle and Huntington. He stopped the subject and determined the subject to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The subject admitted to using methamphetamine at a friend's house. The subject was arrested.

Driving Under the Influence - Suspect Arrested

August 7 at 1:50 a.m., an officer noticed a vehicle traveling west on Lime from Myrtle, which is a one-way street for eastbound traffic. The driver was stopped and determined to be driving under the influence. The driver was arrested.

Residential Burglary - Suspect Arrested

August 8 at 2:50 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of West Cypress regarding a residential burglary in progress. A neighbor witnessed a 15 Year old juvenile smash a window to the rear of the residence and take a pair of sunglasses. The suspect left the location prior to officers arriving, but was stopped at Primrose and Cypress by the officers. Further investigation revealed the suspect lives across the street from where the burglary occurred. The suspect admitted to taking the sunglasses and was arrested. The suspect has no prior arrests or gang association.

Prowling / Receiving Stolen Property / Petty Theft with a Prior - Suspects Arrested

August 10 at 3:23 a.m., an officer was patrolling in the 500 block of West Olive when he observed two male subjects walking, who were possibly gang members. When the subjects saw the police car, they immediately began to run. Assisting units arrived and set-up containment. A yard-to-yard search was conducted. One suspect was found hiding in a side yard of a residence. The suspect was arrested for prowling and receiving stolen property. An officer that was en route to conduct the theft investigation observed the second suspect in the area of Mayflower and Walnut. The suspect was detained and arrested without incident. Both suspects were booked for prowling, receiving stolen property, and petty theft with a prior conviction. The investigation revealed the property was stolen from two vehicles in the 900 block of West Walnut.

Burglary - Suspect Arrest

August 10 at 9:31 a.m., an officer went to a business in the 1100 block of South Fifth regarding locks that were cut from five storage units. The storage unit renters had been contacted, and only one had property stolen, a notary embossing seal. The victim that had her notary seal stolen reported that she had been contacted by Monterey Park Police Department and advised they had a subject in custody for possession of burglary tools, and he was in possession of the stolen notary seal.

Burglary

August 10 at 12:18 p.m., an officer went to a residence in the 200 block of West Lemon regarding a garage break-in. The victim reported two bicycles, an electric sanding machine and tools taken from the garage sometime during the night. Investigation continuing.

Vehicle Burglary / Delaying and Obstructing a Peace Officer - Suspect Arrested

August 11 at 3:30 a.m., an officer saw a suspicious subject inside a parked vehicle on Alta Vista, south of Cypress. The subject exited the vehicle carrying a backpack. The officer made a u-turn and the subject walked out of sight to the rear of an apartment complex on Alta Vista. Officers set up containment of the area and a search was conducted with negative results. Approximately an hour later, an officer still patrolling in the area saw the subject near Alta Vista and Montana. The subject ran to the rear of an apartment complex. Containment of the area was established and a search was conducted. The subject was located and subsequently arrested for vehicle burglary and delaying and obstructing a peace officer.

Stolen Vehicle

August 11 at 10:44 a.m., a victim came into the police station to report his vehicle was stolen. A week ago he had left the keys with his uncle while he was out of town. Several days later his uncle was going to use the vehicle, but noticed the vehicle was missing. The stolen vehicle was a blue, 1987 Honda Accord. The vehicle was taken from the carport in the 800 block of West Duarte Road.

Suspicious Circumstances

August 11 at 12:54 a.m., a manager of the apartment complex in the 100 block of Montana came into the police station to report suspicious activity. He stated that he saw two subjects who live in the complex, exit a pearl white Escalade truck, unload several items, and put them inside one of the subject's apartment. There were two other subjects in the vehicle the manager did not recognized. Officers were aware of a burglary report that was taken a week earlier with the same description.
