Tip of the Week, SeatBelt enforcement campaign

Click It or Ticket
The Monrovia Police Department wants to remind motorists to Click It or Ticket. In order to enforce this reminder, beginning Monday, May 19th, officers will be joining in the 2014 national seat
belt enforcement mobilization and cracking down on motorists who are not belted.

Even with a seat belt usage rate of 97.4 percent, California still has 800,000 or more who aren’t buckling up. In a crash, they stand a 50 percent greater chance of being killed than those who have taken the two seconds to buckle in. In an ongoing effort to reach those remaining safety holdouts, police, sheriff
and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) departments across the state will be taking part in Click It or Ticket from May 19 through June 1.

The cost for a seat belt violation in California for unbuckled vehicle occupants over age 16 is a minimum of $161 for a first offense. The penalty fees for failing to properly buckle up any child under the age of 16 is a minimum of $490 per child for a first offense, plus a violation point will be added to the driver’s record. If the parent is not in the car, the driver gets the ticket.

For more traffic safety information, visit the California Office of Traffic Safety at www.ots.ca.gov or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Click It or Ticket mobilization, www.nhtsa.gov/ciot.

Happy Birthday Monrovia

128 years and counting.  Does that make us one of the original "40 suburubs in search of a city"?

Kidding aside, a little Poinsettia Avenue Trivia.  The majority of our tract  was once an orange grove that was owned by the big blue Victorian on Canyon.  The original carriage house is here and been added onto over the years and is the one, one off on the street that doesn't follow the 3 basic floor plans we have.

Where the street widens on the way up the hill is where our tract was started in 1951.  Below that some of the homes go back to the 1920s.

There are only a couple of the original owners, or owners from the 50s left on the street at this point.

Paint n Play 2 Art Studio and Gallery robbed and ransacked

MPD Needs your help in Identifying this person of interest
Sometime Monday night, early Tuesday Morning Paint n Play 2 Art Studio and Gallery was burglarized and ransacked.  I'll be helping the owner Lisa Barrios inventory the art loss that currently our best guess is it will easily exceed 10K.

The person in this picture was seen about midnight in the court yard behind the businesses in the 400 Block of south Myrtle Avenue.  He was seen coming from the area of Mikomi's back door and walked to the door of the Doll Makers where he tried to open their rear door and posed for this picture.  He was then seen going to the back door of Paint and Play and not seen again.  About 15 minutes later a dark shiny sedan, possibly a Honda or Toyota sedan is seen on Myrtle Avenue and stuff was being put into it.

KABC7 is working on the story and from what I've been told they have the entire video.  When it is available I will share the link here.

If you know the person in this video please contact Monrovia Police at 626-256-8000.

 Keep your pets hydrated with plenty of cool water.
 Provide shade, if your pet is outside.
 Avoid exercising pets during peak hours. Exercise them early morning or later in the evening.
 A dog's paw pads can burn easily when walking on asphalt, artificial grass, cement or other similar surfaces. Walk them later in the evening or early in the morning when it is cool.
 Apply sunscreen on your dog's nose, ears and belly to prevent sunburn. Ask your veterinarian what brand you should use.
 For rabbit owners: Place a two-liter frozen bottle of water in your rabbit's hutch. This acts as a natural air conditioner.
 For cat owners: Place your cat in a sink or bathtub with a few ice cubes to play with. This way your cat can have fun and stay cool at the same time.
 For dog owners: Fill a wading pool with shallow water and let your dogs play around in it. Make
sure to supervise your dogs while they play.
